ROBERT HIGHT TAKES AAA MISSOURI CAMARO TO NO. 1 AT
AAA INSURANCE MIDWEST NATIONALS
ST. LOUIS (Sept. 22, 2018) — While running low ET three out of the four qualifying sessions, Robert Hight and the AAA Missouri Chevrolet Camaro Funny Car team secured their third No. 1 qualifying position of the season Saturday at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals. Courtney Force landed in the No. 3 position, John Force is ninth and Brittany Force is eighth in Top Fuel.

Not only did Hight earn nine valuable bonus points for being quickest three sessions, the two-time champion was also charged with some extra confidence. Two of those runs came in the first and third sessions, the ones most similar to what the Funny Car field will see on race day. JEGS.com pro Jeg Coughlin Jr. leads St. Louis qualifying with another powerful showing
ST. LOUIS (Sept. 22) — The NHRA playoffs are the perfect time to shine and five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. has been strutting his stuff in his JEGS.com Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro since the Countdown to the Championship started one race ago. That trend has continued this weekend in St. Louis with Coughlin securing his third No. 1 qualifier honor of the season.

“This is the Countdown,” said Coughlin, a three-time winner this season and a five-time victor at Gateway Motorsports Park. “All the stops have been pulled and we are really being aggressive in qualifying, much more so than we have been all season.” Continue reading JEGS.com pro Jeg Coughlin Jr. leads St. Louis qualifying with another powerful showing →

Mad Max Stambaugh takes SOD win at I-96 Speedway

Erie, MI (September 22, 2018) – The temperature may have been in the low forties with a brisk north wind, but the action on the track was hot for the Dual on Dirt Take 2 backed by Noizee 1 Motorsports at I-96 Speedway for Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt last night as “Mad Max” Stambaugh earned a hard-fought win.

Ryan Ruhl (Coldwater, Michigan) took the lead at the start of the feature from his outside front rows starting position, but the caution flew as pole starter Mark Aldrich (Addison, Michigan) broke a front hub coming out of turn 2 on lap 1, spinning in front of the pack; everyone avoided Aldrich’s disabled car, but his night was done early. RCR Post Race Report – Go Bowling 250

Matt Tifft and the No. 2 Anderson’s Maple Syrup Team Battle Adversity, Lead Laps and Score a Top-5 Finish

“This was truly a race of ups and downs. Our No. 2 Anderson’s Maple Syrup Camaro qualified in the top 10 and made massive gains near the end of Stage 1 to finish fourth. We were the fastest car on the track from lap 35 on and it showed. Unfortunately, our team had to battle adversity after blowing a front left tire immediately after pitting at the first stage break. That cost us a few spots, but we quickly rebounded to finish in the top 10 at the end of Stage 2. A quick pit stop put us P1 to begin the Final Stage. This allowed me to lead several laps and gave me invaluable experience going forward in the Playoffs. I have to say, it was a great rally to get back up in the top 5. I felt like we competed hard and had a chance to win. I’m not sure if we would have been able to close the deal because our car was so good on long runs but the short run speed was where we struggled a bit. Thanks to Anderson’s Maple Syrup and everyone on this team. It was a great start to the Playoffs, and if we bring this every week it’ll be a good run for us.”

Boss Bird–Pontiac Nationals

We took the car to the Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk, OH. This is the largest marquee event held at that track…completely fills the pits on both sides of the track. We have the only nitro car at that event and spend A LOT of time talking to folks who wanted to see the car up close. There is a big interest in knowing what aftermarket parts and products can survive in a 2500+ horsepower real Pontiac. We ran a couple of low-6 second passes and didn’t hurt any bearings. Recall from our last update the we had started preheating the 70-wt oil to 120 degrees and it has finally given us the amount of oil flow to keep this thing alive. Though the task looks daunting to most, Force and her Advance Auto Parts Monster Energy team know what it takes to rise to the top.

In the midst of their 2017 championship campaign, Force and her team battled their way from the No. 6 spot to take home the title at the final race of the season. The 2018 season has been hard for the defending champions with only one win and one No. 1 qualifier, however the hard work and dedication of the team has not ceased, giving Force confidence as they move forward. HOOTERS ANNOUNCED THEIR CONTINUED SPONSORSHIP WITH YOUR TEAM AND HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS, AND ACTUALLY AN INCREASE. IN THE SPORT AS A WHOLE, IS THAT A BOOST FOR EVERYONE TO SEE THAT MORE SPONSORS AND CURRENT SPONSORS ARE PICKING UP AND DOING MORE FOR DRIVERS AND FOR THE OVERALL SPORT?
“Yeah, for sure. For me in general, I feel like it’s been a really good partnership and very natural. They’ve done such a great job activating. They only have a few races a year. But, they’re important to them and they’re important to us. And when you have a company like that who has those couple of races and they do it the right way. They’re respectful of my time, which makes me want to help them more and vice-versa. So, like I said, it’s been very natural and very easy to work with. And when things are like that the flow is great. And typically the relationship lasts longer because of that, too. So, it’s very well understood on both sides of the ball is great to be on the same team.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Richmond–Chase Elliott →

“Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

We all know that feeling of defeat when you just miss the tree by a mile and can’t reach the finish line first. Unfortunately, it happens (a lot more than we want to admit) in racing, and letting down your team, your car, and your sponsors is the worst feeling in the world.

This past weekend, my teammate Julie and I both lost first round for the second race in a row. For us that is a big deal; we have been to 11 final rounds this year in 18 races and naturally expect both cars to go rounds on race day. Yet, that wasn’t the case at Indy or Reading. Menard Looking For Improvement At Richmond

Menard Looking For Improvement At Richmond

September 19, 2018

Richmond Raceway has never been a particularly good track for Paul Menard or for his Wood Brothers team.

Menard has just one top-five finish there, back in 2013.

The Woods have two Richmond wins but none since Kyle Petty’s victory there in 1986.

But Menard, who will be back in the Motorcraft/Quick Lane colors on the No. 21 Fusion this weekend, has hopes that his and his team’s Richmond fortunes are in for an improvement. Continue reading Menard Looking For Improvement At Richmond →

NHRA Midwest Nationals – St. Louis
Pre-Race Report

Cruz Pedregon and team are optimistic about the upcoming race in St. Louis. “Tommy (DeLago) is really honing in on what the Snap-on Toyota likes and doesn’t like,” Cruz says. “The Round 1 win last weekend is encouraging, and we’re looking forward to going more rounds this weekend.”

Crew Chief DeLago says, “I feel like St. Louis is going to be fast, and we will be ready for a good qualifying spot on race day.”

“The strategy for us as a team is to continue to work as hard as we would if we were in the Countdown,” says Cruz. “We’ll push the Snap-on Toyota as if we were.”

On the side of Cruz’s car –
Check Cruz’s car this week, and you’ll see the name of area Snap-on Nitro Franchisee Dave McCuan. He’s had his Snap-on Franchise for three years and was a technician earlier in his career. McCuan says what he likes best about having his own business is that he’s rewarded for the effort he puts into it. He hasn’t missed the NHRA races here at Gateway Motorsports Park in 11 years, and this weekend McCuan plans to have his wife Ashley, daughter Charlotte and 265 of his enthusiastic customers with him.

The words of five-time National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. ring true entering the second round of the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship this weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois.
