Boss Bird–Pontiac Nationals

We took the car to the Ames Performance Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk, OH. This is the largest marquee event held at that track…completely fills the pits on both sides of the track. We have the only nitro car at that event and spend A LOT of time talking to folks who wanted to see the car up close. There is a big interest in knowing what aftermarket parts and products can survive in a 2500+ horsepower real Pontiac. We ran a couple of low-6 second passes and didn’t hurt any bearings. Recall from our last update the we had started preheating the 70-wt oil to 120 degrees and it has finally given us the amount of oil flow to keep this thing alive.

Next activity was displaying the car at the Nissin Brake Ohio Corporation employee picnic & car show. The event was at the Findlay Oh location and was attended by hundreds of employees. The company President (who presides over 9500+ employees worldwide) was present and made it a point to check out the Boss Bird.

Next race outing was the World Series of Drag Racing in Cordova, IL. This is the longest running drag race ever, and spectators fill every seat in the house. We raced the Iowa Punisher funny car twice and the fans loved both tribute cars; both of who have a rich history in that area of the country. This is Arnie Beswick’s home track so his legions of fans kept us busy both days. A local couple won a radio station contest to be on a nitro crew for a day, so we got tapped to take care of them (the race promoter knows we are very fan-friendly and would be sure they had a good experience). They met the crew, got a detailed explanation of the car and team activities; and their day was capped off by equipping them with team uniform shirts and having them ride in our tow truck up to the starting line. They had a day that they say they’ll never forget! We ran into Don Garlits at the local diner and our clutch guy Dave surprised him by buying his dinner.
