Dixon, Rossi To Lead Starting Field at Gateway
• Qualifying canceled after recurring rain showers, starting field set on championship points
• Championship leaders Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi
• Saturday night contest starts at 8 p.m. EDT

MADISON, Ill. (Aug. 24, 2018) – Intermittent showers throughout the day Friday at Gateway Motorsports Park led Verizon IndyCar Series officials to cancel qualifying for Saturday’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500. As a result, the starting field will be set by entrant championship points, led by Honda drivers Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi.

Dixon, the current points leader, will start from the pole, with Rossi alongside in second. Ryan Hunter-Reay will start fifth for Honda. Graham Rahal and James Hinchcliffe will start seventh and eighth, respectively; with Sebastien Bourdais and Marco Andretti rounding out the top-10. MARSTONS MILLS, Massachusetts (August 22, 2018) – In about the blink of an eye, the Permatex/Follow a Dream Top Alcohol Funny Car team came up short of winning its second consecutive race in this past weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series regional event at Cecil County (Maryland) Dragway.

In the final round of eliminations on Saturday, August 18, Follow A Dream driver Phil Burkart did everything he was supposed to do to win: he was faster (261.07 mph) than opponent Dan Pomponio (256.06 mph), was quicker (5.601 seconds to Pomponio’s 5.639) and reached the finish line first. Scelzi kicked off the doubleheader on Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., during the 2nd Leg of the Northern Tour. He qualified 15th quickest and overcame an incident in a heat race to post a fifth-place finish, which locked him into the 15th starting position for the A Main. HMR/Elite Motorsports/Pertronix Performance Brands Pro Mod Season Update

Alta Loma, CA (August) –We debuted the new Pro Mod program at the Midwest Pro Mod March 1/8th mile race at the Texas Motorplex with Clint Hairston taking a win in the Slammers Class with a hole shot win over Dave Roberts (3.876 to 3.814).

Our NHRA Pro Mod debut came at Houston with Erica Enders driving at her first Pro Mod event. We fell short of qualifying running a best of 5.86. Unfortunately, we DNQ’d at Bristol and Norwalk but found some issues with the car that have been fixed. Our new crew chief, Jeff Pierce, felt that we would have a much better car heading into the $100K WSOPM Denver race. He was right, running a best of 5.92 at Denver altitude and but losing to the eventual winner, Carl Stevens, by .014 in the quarterfinals.

We move on to the Big Go at Indy and feel very confident that we now have a very competitive Pro Mod program. We look forward to the challenge of competing with the best Pro Mod cars in the country and representing our title sponsors Pertronix Performance Brands, Elite Motorsports, Strange, and Lucas Oil our many other product sponsors including: RJ Race Cars, Precision Turbo, Racepak, Precision Racing Suspension, M&M Transmissions, Comp Cams, Motive Gear, and CFE for their continuing support.

Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Road America … In 24 Series starts at the 4.7-mile road course, RCR has captured three victories with drivers Brendan Gaughan (2014), Paul Menard (2015) and Michael McDowell (2016). RCR has accumulated seven top-five finishes, nine top-10 finishes, led 62 laps and averages a starting position of 12.7 and finishing position of 12.9. The Welcome, North Carolina, organization has completed 1,162 laps of the 1,176 (98.8 percent) that they have competed.

Runner-Up Finish for Will Power Keeps Team Chevy Driver in Hunt for Second Championship

LONG POND, Pa. – Starting on the pole, 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series champion Will Power battled hard for his third consecutive trip to Victory Lane at Pocono Raceway, but had to settle for the runner-up spot when the checkered flag flew after 200 hard laps.

The 500-mile mile race was delayed for just under two hours after five-car accident in turn two forced track crew to make significant repairs to the fence. Driver Robert Wickens was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation of what was officially announced as orthopedic injuries. The remaining four drivers involved were all evaluated and released by Verizon IndyCar Series medical staff and cleared to drive. A fast Ford Fusion and an even faster start in Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway were all for naught for Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Knauf team.

After charging from his fourth starting spot into second place and onto the bumper of the race leader before the race’s first caution on Lap Three, Menard experienced a vibration on the ensuing restart and eventually hit the wall on Lap 28, ending his race and leaving him with a 36th-place finish.

Austin Dillon and the Dow NORKOOL Camaro ZL1 Team Cap Off Strong Bristol Motor Speedway Performance with Top-15 Finish

“Man, we passed a lot of cars tonight in the No. 3 Dow NORKOOL Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. We started at the back of the field and worked our way to the front a couple of times. We went back and forth on handling tonight. It would fire off really well, then go into a little slump in the middle of the run, and then get really good again. Crew Chief Justin Alexander and the team helped the handling in the beginning of the race with chassis adjustments. Towards the middle of the race, the track started to come to us more and I was able to search around for better grip. It seemed like the bottom lane of Turns 1 and 2 and top lane of 3 and 4 worked best for us, and we were able to run in the top 10, and well into the top five, for a while. We took two left side tires on that final pit stop but restarted on the bottom and ultimately got shuffled out of a top-10 run. I’m bummed we didn’t get the finish we deserved, but it was worth the gamble to take two tires at the end. The top lane is just very dominant on restarts. I’m proud of the effort my team put in this week. Darlington is next and we are looking forward to it.”

“Our Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Camaro ZL1 had speed this weekend. Unfortunately qualifying didn’t go as planned but I wasn’t too concerned about it because our practices went well. Once the race started we battled tight and loose conditions, but by halfway, we were balanced fairly well. The biggest issue we had was being able to maneuver through all the rubber on the track. Our Chevy either plowed or shook itself loose. I think we’re all looking forward to the off weekend so we can recharge and get ready for Darlington. It’s my favorite race on the Cup schedule and I want to win it for so many reasons. We’ve got to win to get into the Playoffs.”
