KYLE LARSON SECURES PLAYOFF POSITION WITH SECOND-PLACE FINISH AT BRISTOL
Chase Elliott gives Team Chevy two out of the top three overall finishing positions

BRISTOL, TENNESSEE (August 18, 2018) – After taking home the victory in Friday night’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Kyle Larson wanted to pilot his No. 42 DC Solar Camaro ZL1 to a weekend sweep, but came up one position shy after 500-miles of beating and banging in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at the ‘World’s Fastest Half-Mile’. Larson’s runner-up finish unofficially locks him into the 2018 NASCAR Playoff’s giving him the opportunity to race for a championship in the final 10 races of the Cup Series season. BRISTOL, TN (August 17, 2018) – Kyle Larson stole the show in qualifying for the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway with a fast lap of 15.015 seconds, 127.792 mph in his No. 42 DC Solar Camaro ZL1, and will start from the pole position in Saturday evening’s 500-lap race. The feat marked Larson’s seventh pole in 171 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races and his first pole at the half-mile short track. “Yeah, the top 5 was tight. I saw William (Byron) run his .04 there before I went out and I thought man, that’s going to be tough to beat. And, I would have never thought that three other guys would have squeezed in between him and me. That just shows how tough our sport is and our series is. But, our DC Solar Chevy has been really good all day, both in the Xfinity Series and the Cup Series. I felt a little off in first practice, but we got it going good in the second practice and then was fast every round in Qualifying. It’s my favorite track. I have yet to get a win here. We’ve been close so many times. I feel like Kyle (Busch) and I are the two best here, but he always seems to edge me out. YOUR PERFORMANCE LAST WEEK WAS PRETTY GREAT FOR YOU GUYS AS A WHOLE. DO YOU GUYS HAVE MORE OF THAT AND IS THAT THE FIRST OF WHAT YOU WILL SEE FROM YOU GUYS IN THE PLAYOFFS?
“Yeah, you know, obviously that was a big run for our team there at RCR and ECR. Everybody back at the shop has been working really hard to turn the Camaro around for our side of things. We have seen some speed from other guys throughout the year and we have been close. We have had some qualifying runs that were positive, but we weren’t able to relate it to the race. I think last week we proved that we could relate the speed in qualifying to the race and that is huge. Great momentum coming up to some good tracks for us with Bristol, Darlington, finishing with Indy leading into the Playoffs. HOW LONG HAD THIS REALLY BEEN GOING ON IN YOUR HEAD? HOW LONG HAD YOU BEEN CONSIDERING MAKING THIS MOVE? HOW HARD WAS IT TO KEEP IT TO YOURSELF?
“It has been on my mind for a while. Truthfully, the last two years at Hendrick and then the year here at LFR (Leavine Family Racing) just like as far as competition, I haven’t been as competitive as what I want to be. So, I would say over the last three, four months it’s started being on my mind, like man, do I need to find other things to do and think of other things to do. I just finally made that decision. But it’s definitely been there for a few months. I would say this year and LFR is working very hard to make improvements even get better from where we are at right now and that was exciting to me.
