Anderson set for Sunday at Maple Grove following abbreviated qualifying

READING, Pa., October 3, 2015 – Qualifying for the 31st annual NHRA Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway was shortened to just one session as pesky moisture simply would not go away. Friday was a complete washout, but one session was squeezed in on Saturday between showers. The Pro Stock field is set for raceday at the third race of six in NHRA’s 2015 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, and with a sunny and dry Sunday in the forecast, Summit Racing’s Greg Anderson is looking to collect a win.

After a long morning of waiting for Mother Nature to cut the NHRA competitors a break, Anderson seized the opportunity to race down the quarter-mile drag strip and clocked a 6.526-second pass at 213.23 mph, tying his KB Racing teammate Jason Line for top speed of the meet.

The driver of the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro has two previous wins at Maple Grove, and he will be looking for a third with a start from the No. 4 spot in the line-up. Anderson’s most recent Maple Grove Raceway final round was in 2010. His first round opponent tomorrow will be John Gaydosh.

“After we waited quite a long time to make that first run and seeing Top Fuel and Funny Car not really get down the racetrack in these very cold conditions, we decided to be conservative, and we made a clean, decent run,” said Anderson, a four-time Reading low qualifier. “We got in there safely, and now we are in a good spot. We have the data we need, and hopefully, we can go out there tomorrow and step on it.

“Going into that session, it wasn’t looking very good out there. But once a few cars got down, I knew it was okay. I got buckled into the car and knew it was absolutely fine and we were going to go down the track. It was too late to make any big changes at that point, but with each pair the racetrack got better and better. It was fine, and it will be fine for tomorrow. We look forward to it.”
