DETROIT (June 22, 2016) – Road America, Sebastien Bourdais proclaims, is “my favorite racetrack in America,” which is high praise from the four-time IndyCar champion.
Bourdais, who won the last Series’ race on the 14-turn, 4.048-mile course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, in 2007, will have an opportunity to add his 36th career win this weekend as Verizon IndyCar Series drivers compete in the Kohler Grand Prix. The same thing happened in the final. Both of us lit the bulb at the exact same time and when that happens to me I generally don’t do a very good job. We were able to get by that and in the final, when we staged my light blinked. And so the auto start didn’t start when (Greg Anderson) thought it was going to, and it really messes you up when that happens. Neither of us did a great job there; we were a little tardy. Trouble-free run for No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R at French endurance classic

LE MANS, France (June 19, 2016) – A total team effort from Corvette Racing resulted in one of its Chevrolet Corvette C7.R race cars completing the 24 Hours of Le Mans today – the 17th time America’s premier GT team has tackled the famed French endurance race.

The No. 63 Konica Minolta/Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Ricky Taylor finished seventh in the GTE Pro class after starting 14th in the category and last on the grid. The trio ran a steady, clean race with none of the major mistakes that claimed many of the other runners in the class. No. 64 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R retired after crash in 17th hour

Corvette Racing’s No. 64 Konica Minolta/Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R has been retired following a crash in the 17th hour of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Driver Tommy Milner returned to the team garage under his own power. He, Oliver Gavin and Jordan Taylor had been running as high as fifth in GTE Pro.

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 KONICA MINOLTA/MOBIL 1/SIRIUS-XM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “First and foremost, I’m happy to be in a Corvette. This Corvette Racing team and the group at Chevrolet build the safest cars. We’ve seen some big wrecks here over the years and all our drivers have walked away fine. So I feel fortunate in that regard. I’m pretty disappointed that our race has ended the way it has. You never want to be in the car when something like that happens. We had just made some setup changes to try and get some more speed out of the car. It was just driver error. I should have done a better job of keeping the car under control but couldn’t do it today. I’m just disappointed for my teammates and the crew guys for having our race end like this. You always want to finish the race no matter what. So it’s definitely disappointing.”

CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: Six-Hour Update
Both Corvette C7.Rs making progress through first quarter of 24 Hours

LE MANS, France (June 18, 2016) – Corvette Racing has methodically worked its way up the GTE leaderboard following in the first quarter of this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. The two Konica Minolta/Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs were running without issue after six hours in a race the Corvette Racing team has won eight times.

Jordan Taylor had just pitted from sixth in class at the six-hour mark in the No. 64 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R after it started 13th in class. Oliver Gavin started the race, which began in a heavy downpour that forced race officials to run the first 52 minutes behind the safety car. The pair of Konica Minolta/Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs completed the pair of two-hour qualifying sessions Thursday night, and work will begin Friday on optimizing the race cars for 24 hours of intense competition in the GTE Pro class.

Corvette Racing arrived at Le Mans for the 17th time and in search of a ninth class victory. Already, the team has won the Rolex 24 At Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring this season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in North America. CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW YOU GOT INTO THE FIELD OF AERODYNAMICS?
“Straight out of college I started work for GM on production car stuff. I actually designed bumpers. They sent all of us new hires up to Detroit for like three days of seminars telling us about different parts of the company. Dick Amacher was there and talked for a few minutes about Chevy Race Shop. I had always been involved in racing growing up. My uncle’s owned sprint cars for years, drag cars, all that sort of stuff. I went up to Dick after he spoke and said ‘hey can I get a business card, because that is what I would like to do one of these days.’ He gave me his card. My wife was still in school at Purdue so I was still working close to Purdue. When she got ready to graduate was about the same time GM consolidated all of the racing divisions into one. I read about it in National Speed Sport News. I thought, okay they are putting all this stuff together, so I dug out Dick Amacher’s business card and called him up and asked if they were going to have openings. He said yes and I wound up with an offer to move to Michigan. My wife also ended up with a job offer in Michigan. So we moved up there in January of 1992 was when I started at GM Motorsports Technology Group is what it was then. I worked there from 1992-1996. Then wound up an illness in the family moved back to Indy where my family was all from. I worked for an IndyCar team for a couple of years, worked for the Trans-Am Series and then I got called back because they were looking for somebody to do chassis and aero work on the IndyCar program based in Indy. I started back with GM in 2001 and have been there ever since. I was a mechanical engineer in school, always wanted to do racecar design that was why I took mechanical engineering.
