RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 CATERPILLAR CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 3RD
A CRAZY FUEL-MILEAGE RACE AT THE END. HOW WOULD YOU ASSESS THE EVENING?
“We had a good car. We really struggled, like most people did in dirty air. Track position was definitely key, but I’m proud of these guys on the Caterpillar Chevrolet; all the ECR guys, they obviously did a good job on the fuel mileage to make that happen. I think all us drivers that made it, knew what we were doing, it’s just a matter of it we thought we were as good as we were. And, I could have used this iced cold Coke about 30 laps from the end. I’m just proud of the guys. It’s our first Top-5 of the year, but we’ll keep digging.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kentucky Post Race

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 NAPA AUTO PARTS CHEVROLET SS – Involved in an on-track accident on lap 89
YOUR CREW IS MAKING REPAIRS, BUT TAKE ME THROUGH WHAT HAPPENED. DID YOU REALIZE YOU WERE GOING THREE-WIDE?
“Yeah, kind of at the last second I heard them say three, and I really didn’t know how that was going to work. And there’s really not enough room. I felt like I was I was about at the top of the gray; or the bottom of the gray; as about at the top as I could be without getting up in the mess. I tried to give as much room as I could do as possible. That’s racing, I guess. We’ll just try to go get ‘em next week. The good news is we had a fast NAPA Chevy; the bad news is that we’ve had three bad weeks in a row. So, for us; we’ve just got to go back and get the job done, bottom line. So, we’ll try again next week.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kentucky–Chase Elliott

It is just qualifying, we have a lot of work to do this weekend. But it certainly a great stamp on the work the No. 22 team has been doing as well as the whole Penske organization. We work, all four of us together with Helio (Castroneves), Juan (Pablo Montoya) and Will (power) make it really nice to go to work in the morning. We manage to make the car better together and it shows on the race track. Super proud of everyone with the Menards team. It is fantastic to accomplish success this year. Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia claimed pole position today for the Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class with a lap of 1:15.198 (117.7 mph) at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Garcia, who drives the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, will look for his second CTMP victory in three seasons with Jan Magnussen.

ANTONIO GARICA, CORVETTE RACING NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM POLE-WINNER: “Everyone at Corvette Racing did a fantastic job. We really like this track, and our records reflect that. It will be a tough race but I am very pleased with the result today. We are always very strong here, and I was looking forward to qualifying. Track position is very important here so I think we are in a very strong position. It’s nice to be up there near the front and fighting. The car has felt pretty decent all year long. At points we were just lacking some speed. But we have to do our jobs. If we do our pit stops in the right way have the right strategy, execution and do everything at 100 percent, then you can be in a position for a win.”

SIMON PAGENAUD, NO. 22 MENARDS TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, won his fifth Verizon P1 award of the season and the seventh of his Verizon IndyCar Series career. The pole-winning effort was also the 500th pole for Team Penske:

YOU CAPTURED THE 500TH POLE FOR PENSKE RACING: “That’s pretty cool isn’t it. 500 – how cool is that. It is just qualifying, we have a lot of work to do this weekend. But it certainly a great stamp on the work the No. 22 team has been doing as well as the whole Penske organization. But again, this is qualifying and the big prize is tomorrow when the points come.

“It is such a gamble for the engineers in this situation. You only get two laps. Conditions from this morning to the afternoon changed. It is fun. When you get the car right like this on an oval. This Menards car is beautiful. It has been super close all weekend. Super proud of the No. 22 team. Chevy has been incredible giving us so much power and such a good aero kit its been comfortable and a lot more to my driving style.

“The biggest statement we want to show is we are strong on ovals as well and want to win. I’m super happy about that. I’m super happy we can show some speed. We were fast at Indy as well, but mechanical took us out of that. It’s great to be here. It is great to show so much strength.

“I’m the lucky one who got to win the 500th pole for Team Penske. A Frenchman and on an oval!”

ON HIS VISIT TO NATIONWIDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN COLUMBUS, OHIO YESTERDAY:
“I was really lucky to go up there and get a bit of a behind-the-scenes look and be brought in and introduced to several patients and get a bit of a tour of some of the facility. We’ve been up there for the last year or two to go through that and it’s a lot of fun. The patients are awesome to talk to and to get to know. And we donated a Victory Bell, much like we have at Hendrick Motorsports, yesterday; and two of the kids graduated today and rang it today. So, it’s awesome to know that thing is getting some use. But it’s a great treat for me to go there and I got to take Amy with me this week and she got to see a little bit of it. It’s a lot of fun. I look forward to going back.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kentucky–Dale Earnhardt Jr

Qualifying for Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway Cancelled Due to Rain
Chevrolet’s Kevin Harvick to Lead the Field to Green

SPARTA KY. – July 8, 2016 – Qualifying for Saturday night’s Quaker State 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway has been cancelled due to inclement weather.

The starting grid has been set per the provisions in the NASCAR rulebook. NASCAR announced prior to the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway two weeks ago, that current year owner points would replace practice speeds for determining race eligibility and starting position in the event adverse conditions prevent qualifying from taking place. As a result of this change, Chevrolet SS driver Kevin Harvick will lead the field to green for the sixth annual Quaker State 400 from Kentucky Speedway. This will be the first time the 2014 series champion has started from the top spot at the 1.5-mile track. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kentucky–Kevin Harvick

“Yeah, I think there have certainly been some close finishes. I wish had been a part of some of the close battles there that we have seen at Phoenix and Sonoma. Definitely some cool races I think from a fans perspective to watch. Hopefully, that has been exciting to see whether or not fans are at the race track or watching from home. “For us it’s an opportunity I think coming to a track that is freshly paved. The racing has been pretty solid this year. We look at this as an opportunity for us coming to a place that not anybody has a real true advantage. There are some guys that tested here, but as far as the banking and the layout of the track, I’ve been pretty fast here. I’m looking forward to this weekend’s race and the opportunities it brings. It was nice getting in the Xfinity car and kind of learning a little bit before we get in the Cup car. WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 3, 2016) – There was good reason to celebrate on Independence Day weekend for the Corvette Racing and Corvette Daytona Prototype programs.

“I was in the middle and something happened to the No. 1 (Jamie McMurray) and he went to the right and then he chased it…and was in a slide and came back down in front of me, hit the No. 42 (Kyle Larson) door-to-door – kind of light contact. I thought we were fine, but I eventually turned him sideways and the whole thing happened. I don’t know what happened to the No. 1 to change lanes as fast as he did from the outside, but we are all dealing with a matter of inches and once that started, it just collected everybody.”
