TONY STEWART, NO. 14 HAAS AUTOMATION CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 2ND
WHATEVER CHANGES YOUR CREW CHIEF MADE OVERNIGHT IT SEEMED LIKE THEY WORKED:
“Yeah we had a much better Haas Automation Chevy today than what we had yesterday. Buga (Mike Bugarewicz, crew chief) did a really good job. I went off and went to Eldora for the King’s Royal last night. He kept sending me a couple of texts. He was working as late here as I was working late at Eldora. It really paid off. He is doing such a great job for a rookie crew chief that only has half a season he has got veteran calls and veteran moves. Really proud of him, proud of this whole team, Mobil 1, Bass Pro, Code 3 Associates, Rush Truck Centers. I think our partners are as excited about all this as I am which is making it fun. They are as much a part of the team as anybody, Rusty (Rush), Eric and Dan and everybody at Mobil 1 and Johnny Morris at Bass Pro we are loving it. Chevrolet most of all. They have been a great partner my entire career with GM, Pontiac and Chevrolet. I’m proud to be running my last year in a Chevy.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire Quotes

WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, won his third race of the season in the Verizon IndyCar Series on Sunday with his second career victory at the Honda Indy of Toronto. With his 28th career win in the series, he solidified his second-place position in the Driver Championship.

THREE WINS IN THE LAST FOUR RACES… HOW DO YOU FEEL WITH WHAT YOUR TEAM IS GETTING DONE HERE MID-SUMMER? “The team is doing a great job. Obviously we’ve been playing catch-up all year. Every race we’re executing, getting great strategy and great cars. We’ll keep chipping away to see if we can have a shot at this.”

YOU’RE SECOND IN POINTS NOW. GIVE US YOUR THOUGHTS ON WHERE YOU ARE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. “I don’t know the points situation right now. All we know is we have to finish ahead of the 22 (Simon Pagenaud) every race if we want to win it again.”

CAN YOU TELL US HOW DALE EARNHARDT JR IS DOING? HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT IF HE HAS HAD A CONCUSSION, OR NOT?
“I’m not a doctor, but he’s running through a bunch of tests and he’s going to have some more tests the first of the week. He’s doing good. He wants to be in the car. The doctors are going to tell him when it’s okay for him to be back. And so, I know he’s anxious. We want him back as soon as the doctors give him clearance.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Rick Hendrick

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 TARGET CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, VERIZON P1 AWARD WINNER: TALK ABOUT THE LAST LAP, THE POLE WINNING LAP:
“Well, I think it started with the first few laps. I was all down and out. I’m like ‘oh that doesn’t look so good.’ I couldn’t get my splits to go negative and the last lap and then we just crossed the line to get another lap. They are like ‘keep going, keep going’. Just gave it our all and the car just kept actually getting quicker. I think the Firestone tires finally came in. I was probably not as hard on them as I needed to be right out of the gate. So stoked for Team Target it’s great to be back on the pole. We haven’t had a pole this year, but huge credit to the team they did a hell of a job this weekend.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Toronto–Qualifying Notes

THAT WAS AM IMPRESSIVE LAP DID YOU THINK YOUR CAR HAD THAT IN IT?
“I knew the car was good. We had something really weird go on in our mock run in practice for qualifying. It had us kind of confused. We went back to kind of square one and where we unloaded. The car was fast in all the sessions, a little tight, but we kept progressing, we kept our lap count down which was really important and was able to advance to the next round on the first lap, so just really happy. It was a trying day for sure, but just so proud of this whole race team. Huge thanks to all the support from Lowe’s and all the employees at Lowe’s. They are behind us each and every weekend and we are very appreciative of that. Great support at Hendrick Motorsports and also Chevrolet. “I’m excited about next week; but first off we’ve got to have a good weekend here. We struggled here last year. I was really good my first season in Cup; but this is probably our worst race track. We’re not off to a good start here in practice. We were off a little bit, but you know me, as well. This track is just tough for me. We’re looking at some notes and stuff. Jamie (McMurray) is pretty quick so I’ve been talking to him a little bit after practice and trying to learn as much as I can. We’re just hoping for a good weekend. We’ve been getting closer and closer in the points and getting in position to make the Chase, so we’ve just got to keep working hard and be consistent and not have any bad races and hopefully can get there.” Continue reading Chevy Racing-NASCAR–New Hampshire–Kyle Larson

DALE EARNHARDT JR. WILL NOT COMPETE IN THE JULY 17 NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES EVENT AT NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY AFTER EXPERIENCING CONCUSSION-LIKE SYMPTOMS.

HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS GENERAL MANAGER DOUG DUCHARDT, CREW CHIEF GREG IVES, AND SUBSTITUTE DRIVER ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed the situation.

The session was moderated by DAVID HIGDON, V.P., NASCAR INTEGRATED MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS

DAVID HIGDON:
“I wanted to start off providing a little bit of background on NASCAR’s concussion protocol. As you know, NASCAR requires drivers to submit a baseline neurocognitive assessment such as an impact test. And again those are only one tool as a prerequisite for being licensed to compete. This mandate filed a comprehensive industry-wide education process launched by NASCAR in 2013. Additionally, NASCAR’s medical advisory group, a team of consulting physicians who work directly with the league on policy development while regularly meeting with drivers to continue the education process includes many leaders in the neurological field such as Dr. Vinay Deshmukh of the Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine Associates.

Man, it’s hard to not get emotional after these things! What a great car! Fuzzy’s Vodka…they enable us to do what we are doing here. Have a great team with Ed Carpenter Racing. Great team owner in Ed Carpenter. It is great, man. Best car I’ve ever had. Happy for my team. For my owner – he is a good dude. He takes good care of me. Just happy. This is so cool. JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 21 FUZZY’S ULTRA PREMIUM VODKA ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET, won today’s Iowa Corn 300 for the Verizon IndyCar Series at Iowa Speedway. Newgarden led 282 of the 300 laps on his way to his 3rd career victory, first on an oval. The 282 laps is the most laps led in an IndyCar race.

JOSEF – HAVE YOU EVER HAD A CAR THAT GOOD? “I think we had a car like that last year. Love running Indy cars around this place. I hope we come back here for many, many years.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS WHEN YOU PITTED FOR THE LAST TIME? “No. These guys are the best. I have the best crew out there. We learn from past deals. We watch the tapes and everyone learns what we need to do for this year. I had total confidence that we were going to have a good stop. We had a little bit of a buffer, that we were going to get back out there on that last stint and just run away with it. The car was just incredible. I could put it anywhere. It really helped. My right hand was killing me, but having an amazing car helps a lot. It is all credit to this team, Ed Carpenter Racing, they did an amazing job today.”

YOU JUST DID TWO RACES, ONE ON A ROAD COURSE, AND WON ON AN OVAL, HOW EMOTIONAL WAS IT FOR YOU AS YOU RECOVER FROM YOUR INJURIES? “I forgot about that. We’ve been so close to winning on an oval with this team. We’ve had seconds and…I hate having a cop-out. I don’t want people to think that I’m having a harder time because of the injuries. It was tough. This place is already difficult, it is one of the most difficult places we go to. But I wasn’t going to lose control of this thing. When you are leading the race and you have your team watching your back, man, you have to bring it home. I wanted to do it for all of these guys and girls. Just so happy for my group. The injuries – it doesn’t mean anything. It is all about the car and how good of a team we are. I think that is what got it done for us today.”
