TELL US ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED?
“Just got dehydrated in the car. Not exactly sure what led to it we will have to dig in and see what happened. I started cramping when I got out of the race car. Then when I was cramping I was trying to stand-up because I was fine when I sat down then I would stand-up I would get dizzy. When I would sit back down I would start to cramp again. Just really dehydrated. Ended up with five liters of IV in me. I was definitely dry. I will have to dig in and understand what happened in the car. I was hot in the car so I will have to make sure all my fans were working and stuff like that. Scary moment and I hate that it happened, but have to learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Richmond Post Race

DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 NATIONWIDE INSURANCE CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Richmond International Raceway and discussed Nationwide Insurance, strategy for the Chase, a relief fund for drivers, pressure in Chase and other topics. Full transcript:

TALK ABOUT HAVING NATIONWIDE INSURANCE AS SPONSOR: “I’ve been looking forward to getting this car (Nationwide Insurance livery) on the track. I’ve been working with Nationwide for a really long time, and it is a genuine relationship. They’ve been insuring the vehicles I drove since I’ve had my driver’s license. I can take you to the building in Kannapolis where we used to go to get the tags and all that stuff handled. I’m pretty happy to be able to work with companies you can get excited about, and that the relationship feels genuine and real. I feel real fortunate to be honest with you in that regard. We’ve had a working relationship for the last couple of years, and everyone has seen the commercials if you watch the Nationwide races. When I heard that they were a candidate to be a part of our Cup program, I was just surprised and excited about that to be able to continue that relationship and grow it. You work so hard in building these relationships with your partners. When they have the ability to invest more into that relationship, and you can take that partnership, and do better and bigger things with it; it’s a real win and success story. I was glad that they were coming on to our Cup car. More dialogue began to happen with HMS (Hendrick Motorsports) about the possibility of actually getting on the car this year, and so here we are today. I’m excited, and looking forward to working with Nationwide, and continue that relationship, and try to make sure it benefits both parties, and they enjoy the experience at the Cup level. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I know those guys pretty well, and I already have a good working relationship with them, and it should be real comfortable and easy.”

WELCOME TO THE CHASE. HOW AS THAT SUNK IN FOR YOU THIS WEEK KNOWING THAT COMING INTO RICHMOND THAT THAT HEAVY BURDEN HAS BEEN LIFTED FROM YOU?
“Yeah, it’s been a good week. It was great to get that win last week. We hadn’t won in awhile so it felt really good personally and for our team – all the guys. Hopefully we can carry all that momentum into this weekend. I think Richmond will tell a lot about where we are as a team going into Chicago and into the start of Chase – depending on how we run, how we perform and how well we work together tomorrow night. So we’re looking forward to it. We started out a little rough for us today… in qualifying trim not so good but in race trim I thought we were decent. We weren’t the best car but we were fairly close. As the track changes tomorrow, it changes who has the best car a lot of the time. Looking forward to tomorrow’s race.”

YOU’D LIKE TO GET A WIN SATURDAY NIGHT AT RICHMOND; WHAT’S YOUR OUTLOOK?
“Oh, this is a great race track and it’s great to be here and just look forward to the opportunity to running well. Statistically, it’s been a good track for me. In our position, where we are in points, win or not, if we just do our job with the good Caterpillar Chevrolet, we’ll be in contention to make these last 10 races a lot of fun.”

Ross Hoek Motorsports Crandon Season Finale Race Report
Looks Back on Sophomore Season in PRO-4×4

Holland, Mich. (September 4, 2014) – The final weekend of racing for Ross Hoek Motorsports at “The Big House” in Crandon, Wisconsin capped a constructive and solid race season for the sophomore PRO-4×4 racer. Despite not taking the checkered flag during the Labor Day weekend event, the #10 Nitto Tire/TR Beadlock/Shop-Vac PRO-4×4 continually improved its performance on the track and finished on the podium twice during the twelve round race season. With that in mind the future continues to look bright for Ross Hoek.

The final two rounds of racing actually became one round of racing, as torrential rains hit the Wisconsin Northwoods Friday night and Saturday morning. By the time the Sportsman racers took to the track for the first time it was mid-afternoon and as the PRO classes were about to race, the sun had set causing the cancellation of Round 13.

The next morning TORC officials declared Round 14 to be a double points race in an effort to make up for the cancellation of the previous day of competition.

The early Sunday afternoon eight lap season finale saw the #10 Nitto Tire/TR Beadlock/ Shop-Vac PRO-4×4 get a great holeshot exiting Potawatomi Turn One in third place. Early into the run, Hoek had contact from a couple of his competitors which damaged the truck’s steering system. Then just past the halfway point of the race the truck became uncontrollable and Hoek retired from the race.

LOOKING AHEAD TO SATURDAY NIGHT A WIN WILL GUARANTEE YOU A SPOT IN THE CHASE. WITH THAT SAID HOW ARE YOU APPROACHING THIS WEEKEND HERE AT RICHMOND?
“It’s got to all go really good. I thought our – what was our AXE Chevy last time we were here – but I think our Target Chevy will be good again. We were on the pole last time. We got in the wall the first lap and kind of messed up our splitter. I don’t really know where we stood in the race. But we had a good test here a couple of months ago. I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of this track. Hopefully we can get a win. That is pretty much our only hope right now, unless (Greg) Biffle has an absolutely horrible night, we are going to have to get a win. It is nice knowing what you have to do I guess before the race starts. Just got to be aggressive and get all you can. If we get a win it will be amazing if we can get in the Chase it will be pretty cool.”

Follow A Dream Misses U.S. Nationals

Jay Blake’s Permatex/Follow A Dream team missed qualifying for the Top Alcohol Funny Car program by one spot at the prestigious Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Seventeenth in a 16-car field, driver Todd Veney ran a best of 5.76 at 251 mph – three-hundredths of a second short of the 5.73 bump. “There’s no getting around it,” Blake said. “That was a huge disappointment.”
A newly reconditioned supercharger, back on the car for the first time in the opening qualifying session, failed to generate the required boost, and the problem was compounded when the data recorder failed to work for the first time all year, leaving tuner Tom Howell with no information to use for adjustments. The 5.78 at 246 mph on that pass was followed by a similar 5.76 at 248 the next day, but with the computer operating properly, Howell pinpointed the problem immediately and the crew installed another supercharger for Sunday’s final qualifying session.
Tenuously in the field at the No. 14 spot before that run, Veney was knocked off the ladder by Sean Bellemeur, who clocked a 5.72 one pair ahead of him. With more boost and much more power, the car left hard on that last-ditch attempt, rattled the tires at the top of low gear, and ran another 5.76 when Veney backpedaled to get out of tire shake.
“We had our problems, obviously, and you can’t have that at a race like Indy,” Veney said. “It’s been years since we didn’t qualify, and under normal circumstances Tom could probably make the car run a 5.73 in reverse, but at the U.S. Nationals, 5.70s aren’t enough.”
The Permatex/Follow A Dream team’s next event is Sept. 12-14 at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, where earlier this year the team reached the semifinals at the 4-Wide Nationals.

Quick West Coast Swing

It’s a trip south on I-5 from Washington to Oregon to California over the next week before the World of Outlaws Series heads back to the midwest, and then to the east coast.

KKR had a great showing in the Pacific Northwest. The first night at Skagit Cody and Brad battled hard for the lead when contact from another car put Cody and the No. 4 team out of the running. Brad went on to finish third, while Daryn knocked out another top-10 finish and came home ninth.
