I didn’t think there was going to be a lot of people but whoever didn’t come missed a hell of a race. “That was some old school Texas right there. It was a good night. We started way in the back, but we made up positions right away. I think with INDYCAR not changing the rules and the earlier race being a day race, we had a ton of downforce that we had to run during tonight’s race, so the cars felt a lot closer as you could see. I had to dig into my hard drive and remember pack racing again. It worked out pretty well. Big props to the guys in front who gave each other room, that’s why we finished the way we did. It’s always a pleasure to race like that. McDowell earns first NASCAR victory, No. 2 Rheem team earns second consecutive win and RCR captures third consecutive victory at Road America

“This win means so much to me. I’ve been close here at Road America so many different times and to finally get the win, it feels great. I can’t thank Rheem and Richard Childress Racing enough for this opportunity. It’s not every week you get a call to come drive equipment like this. I’ve been able to drive a lot of great cars here but haven’t been able to execute and get the win, but today we did. I was dreading the last two restarts. It happens here. You build up a good lead and the caution comes out then you have to fight for it on the restarts. I was trying to be really disciplined today by saving my tires for a green-white-checkered finish. I was anticipating there being a late-race caution, so I tried to learn a lot of the other cautions to be able to get a good restart. Brendan (Gaughan) did a great job and I had fun racing him for the lead at the end. It’s awesome for RCR to have two teams battling for the win. Thank you to everyone at RCR and everybody on this Rheem team. This is great.”

Ty Dillon Overcomes Late-Race Struggles, Battles to a 12th-place Finish at Road America

“We got off to a great start and I felt like we had a top-five Bosch Chevrolet Camaro. Later in the race though, I wasn’t able to get into the braking zones like some of the other guys could and it really hurt us. This race is really a lot about surviving, keeping good track position and not getting run off course. We got pushed off by the 88 car towards the end and it forced us to pit under green costing us track position. We were able to fight for a 12th-place finish there at the end with a few late race passes. Congratulations to the No. 2 team and Michael McDowell on their win today.”

Brandon Jones Recovers to a 16th-place Result After Late-Race Spin at Road America

“We can finally go race now that the road course portion of the season is over. I definitely felt like Road America was our best road course of the three we have run this year. If we hadn’t been wrecked there at the end of the race, I thought we would have come home with a top-10 finish. This M-D Building Products/Menards team did a great job all weekend long. I can’t thank all of my RCR teammates enough for helping me out through this road course streak that we’ve had here in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, I think it showed for sure there at the end. Congrats to Michael and Brendan for their great runs today. Wish we had a clean car to go after it there at the end, but all-in-all a good day for the M-D Building Products/Menards team.

Brendan Gaughan Continues Momentum with Second-Place Finish at Road America

“I love this track. I’ve been saying it all along. Whether it was wet or dry, I didn’t care either way. I love this track. Our South Point Chevrolet was absolutely unbelievable in the braking zones today. What Richard Childress Racing does with our brake systems is absolutely amazing. I could out-brake anyone in the field. Man, I wanted to win this race so bad. I love Michael McDowell. I know it is RCR going for three wins in a row here at Road America, but I wanted to win this thing. This track means so much to me. I gave it all I could. I gave it one last-ditch effort in Turn 14 and just couldn’t keep the power down on the straightaway and had to come home second. Way to go RCR, finishing first and second, and getting three wins in a row here at Road America. We like taking this trophy home.”

James Goughary Jr. wins first Formula 4 U.S. Championship race

MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY (August 27, 2016) – A new Formula 4 United States Powered by Honda victor emerged Saturday as James Goughary Jr. of Jupiter, Florida, won Race 1 at New Jersey Motorsports Park after lap 1 commotion tangled most of the young field.

Jackie Ding of Shenzen, China, was in position two when his rear swung out from behind him, spinning him in the middle of the track’s apex. As most of the field tried to dodge contact by going wide of the incident, Goughary used his 30 years of racing experience to his advantage by taking the inside of the turn to avoid traffic and contact. CORVETTE RACING AT VIR: Magnussen Leads Corvette 1-2 Effort in Qualifying

ALTON, Va. (Aug. 27, 2016) – Jan Magnussen put the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R on pole position Saturday for the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR. The Corvette Racing stalwart set a lap of 1:41.557 (115.9 mph) to lead the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class and the overall standings on the GT-only weekend at Virginia International Raceway.

Tommy Milner, in the GTLM championship-leading No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Corvette C7.R, gave Corvette Racing a 1-2 qualifying effort with a lap of 1:41.568 (115.9 mph).

The two-hour, 40-minute Michelin GT Challenge at VIR is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 28. It will air live on FOX Sports 1 starting at 1:30 p.m. ET with IMSA Radio coverage and Chevrolet on-board cameras available on IMSA.com.

JAN MAGNUSSEN, NO. 3 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FASTEST OVERALL IN SATURDAY PRACTICE: “I’m so happy. It’s an overall pole so that is even better! The team has done a fantastic job with our Corvette C7.R. It’s so close out there. I knew I needed every single hundredth (of a second) to beat the No. 4 Corvette! It’s a fantastic effort for everyone at Corvette Racing. We really pulled things together after a great test earlier this week and were able to use some of that here. We can’t wait for tomorrow. Hopefully the two Corvettes can have a great race together from the front.
HAS THE NEW SURFACE CHANGED HOW THE CAR DRIVES SIGNIFICANTLY? “I’ve always been a huge fan of VIR. “It’s a fantastic place to drive; you spend lots of time down through the Esses and the new surface makes it a great experience. I can’t remember when a GT car went around here with this much grip. It feels like a whole different category.”
DOES THE HEAT HELP YOUR CAR? “The tarmac has a lot more grip than last year. We like it a lot. We thought the track would be a lot slower this afternoon but it wasn’t by much if at all.”

BROOKLYN, Mich. – (August 27, 2016) – Team Chevy had two solid final practice sessions at Michigan International Speedway. Tony Stewart in his final start at MIS as a full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor led the second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice session. He was followed by a parade of Chevrolet SS driver’s on the practice sheet, eight of the top 10 overall. The final Cup Series practice session at MIS was cut short due to weather in the area, but Team Chevy still captured six of the top 10 spots. Blaney Qualifies Seventh For The Pure Michigan 400

Coming off a disappointing end to last Sunday’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Ryan Blaney and his Motorcraft/Quick Lane team were looking to rebound at the Michigan International Speedway.

They did just that, posting the fourth-fastest time in opening practice and qualifying seventh for Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Aug. 24) — JEGS.com driver Troy Coughlin Jr. will take the battle for the Super Comp national and divisional championships to Beech Bend Raceway Park this weekend for the North Central Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Finals.

After a semifinal finish in the Division 1 race at Cecil County Dragway, Coughlin sits fourth in the national Lucas Oil Series points standings and leads the Division 3 standings.

“It’s still pretty early,” Coughlin said. “You look at the points, but you don’t really need to put it in the back of your mind. It’s the fun part of Sportsman racing, but it’s still pretty early. This is a pivotal point in the year. Guys we’re competing against, like Phil Smida, he’s pretty close behind me, and he’s an extremely good driver.
