Dominic Scelzi Wins Sprint Invaders Show Before Producing Two Strong Runs With World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 17, 2019) – Last weekend was a huge step in the right direction for Dominic Scelzi and his family owned team, which showcased three straight solid nights in Iowa.

The action began on Thursday at Eldon Raceway in Eldon, where Scelzi swept the Sprint Invaders show by winning a heat race, the dash and the main event for his third triumph of the season.

“I feel like with where we were at Fairbury (earlier this month) we were going in the right direction,” he said. “At Eldon we had everything right. I think I took the lead in four or five laps in the feature and we ended up winning by six seconds. It went so smoothly. I was comfortable all night long. It was a big boost of confidence.”

Scelzi’s dominating performance was followed by two strong nights at Knoxville Raceway during the Brownells Big Guns Bash. The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader began on Friday with Scelzi qualifying fifth quickest in his group.

“I felt pretty good and we made good laps,” he said. “In the heat race we were running third when a fuel pump clamp broke. That was unfortunate because we would have started ninth in the feature.”

The DNF relegated Scelzi to the Last Chance Showdown, which he won to transfer into the back of the main event. He then rallied from 21 st to an 11th-place finish. That earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“I wish we could have got a couple of yellows in the main because the car was on a rail,” he said. “I was running mostly on the top, but I was able to pass on the bottom as well. The guys had the car running awesome.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday with another consistent outing. Scelzi qualified sixth quickest in his group and finished fourth in a heat race. He capped the night by gaining a pair of positions to end 14th in the main event.

“We went out third or fourth to last and laid down really good qualifying laps again,” he said. “I was extremely happy going sixth quick. On the original heat race start we were in third and competing for second. On the next restart Terry McCarl had a better start and got by us for third. Then in the feature I got up to 11th at one point, but I got passed by Ian (Madsen) on the bottom. I moved down there and just missed it one lap and fell to 14th. All in all, I felt like we had real good speed. I think it was the best weekend we’ve had at Knoxville to date. It was a great warmup for the Knoxville Nationals in August.”

Scelzi has a busy week on tap. He is scheduled to compete this Tuesday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, and Wednesday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, during Ohio Speedweek with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions. He will then fly home to race for Roth Motorsports on Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.
