(May 17, 2019) – The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, presented by GEICO, will make its lone international stop of the season with two action-packed days of high-flying, short course racing in picturesque Estero Beach in Ensenada, Mexico. The fifth annual Rockstar Energy Battle South of the Border Presented by Lucas Oil takes place on Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th where the Baja International Short Course at Estero Beach will delight fans and challenge racers with a seven-turn, jump-filled course that is sure to produce some of the closest racing of the season.
The Baja Peninsula is well known amongst off road motorsports fans and provides an appropriate setting for one the most intense rounds of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Various classes of trucks and buggies will compete in front of thousands of fans that flock to the coastal resort to take in world-class racing and experience the relaxing oceanfront setting of Estero Beach. The first daytime race of the series will allow drivers and teams to shine under the bright Mexican sun when the green flag flies in front of the blue Pacific!

The first two rounds of the series have produced some exciting racing as championship battles begin to take shape. The top three in the Pro 2 standings are separated by only four points with RJ Anderson tied with Mexico’s own Rodrigo Ampudia for second. Brian Deegan collected his first win of the season and moved into the point’s lead following an intense hard-fought battle in Arizona. The hometown hero, Ampudia will look to unseat Deegan atop the championship ranks with what would surely be a fan-favorite victory. Kyle LeDuc has emerged as the frontrunner amongst a competitive Pro 4 field notching back-to-back wins and a 12-point lead over Doug Mittag in the overall standings. Mittag will look to collect his third consecutive pole position and eliminate costly mistakes in his quest for his first victory of the season.

Ryan Beat is holding strong in his Pro Lite title defense where his win at the season opener helped position him two points ahead of Mickey Thomas, the Round 2 victor. It doesn’t get any closer than the tie atop the Pro Buggy standings as Chris Nunes and Eliott Watson are deadlocked with 100 points each. As one of the most competitive classes in the championship, it could be Nunes, Watson or a number of other title contenders emerging victorious in Mexico.

Brock Heger’s defense of the Production 1000 UTV title is right on track following his Round 1 victory. He leads Round 2 winner, Robert Stout by four points. Corry Weller will attempt to extend her 14-point lead over Ronnie Anderson in the Turbo UTV class as off road racing’s most prolific female driver seeks her second consecutive class title.

The talented drivers across all six of these Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series classes will put on an unforgettable show for the fans packing the Estero Beach stands. Two full days of racing action are in store that are sure to shake up the championship standings as the series nears the halfway point of the season and drivers strive to assert themselves as the dominant force in their respective class.
All nine Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series classes will combine to provide what is sure to be a competitive and captivating night of racing in the Arizona desert, where men, women, boys, and girls of all ages will duke it out in a battle for victory.
