Giovanni Scelzi Heading to Eldora Speedway for World of Outlaws Event

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 7, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi is tackling a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader at Eldora Speedway this weekend.

Scelzi will pilot an Indy Race Parts sponsored sprint car owned by Bernie Stuebgen during the two-day event hosted by the high-banked oval near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday.

“It’s a place we’ve run pretty decent at,” Scelzi said. “We’ve made some features and we had a podium the last time we raced there. I think I’ve grown as a driver since I’ve been there so I’m excited to get back this weekend.”

Scelzi has six career starts at the half-mile track – all occurring last season. His career-best run was a third-place outing last September. He also posted a top 10 during his debut. Scelzi’s best World of Outlaws result at the track is a 14th-place finish, which he produced twice.

“It’s a pretty unique track,” he said. “We’ve been good on the bottom, but I need to get more comfortable running around the fence.”

Scelzi drove his family owned sprint car last Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. He qualified 12th quickest overall before a fourth-place run in a heat race locked him into the 15th starting position for the A Main.

“It was the first night on that car on a big track,” he said. “We struggled in hot laps and in qualifying, but we got it better in the heat race and then the feature. It’s hard to pass when you start that far back and 20 laps goes pretty quick so making the progress we did was good.”
