Dominic Scelzi Rallies for Top-10 Result at Silver Dollar Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 7, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi highlighted last weekend’s doubleheader at Silver Dollar Speedway with an eighth-place outing on Friday.

Scelzi competed on both Friday and Saturday at the quarter-mile oval while driving for Roth Motorsports. He qualified sixth quickest out of 30-plus competitors and picked up a position to finish second in a heat race during Friday’s opener.

“We showed promise on Friday,” he said. “We went out a little late and timed in well. Then we advanced to second in a heat race, which just barely missed the dash.”

Scelzi started the main event on the inside of the fifth row, but an early incident relegated him to the back of the field.

“The track had slicked off,” he said. “I was racing a guy on the opening lap when I locked the left front tire against the arm and it spun me out. I went to the back and got up to seventh in a few laps. Then I did the same thing again. I’ve got into the habit of instead of scrubbing speed I’ll turn the car more sideways. With a straight left front arm I’ve had bad luck.”

Scelzi charged from the back of the field a second time to post an eighth-place finish. The team changed the left front arm to a similar one Scelzi uses in his family car for Saturday’s Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.

Scelzi qualified fourth quickest out of 30-plus drivers and he placed fourth in a heat to narrowly miss the dash. He lined up seventh for the main event and battled for a top five throughout the first three-quarters of the 40-lap race.

“We were just off it seemed all race and we couldn’t get going,” he said. “I got to fifth, fell to sixth and got back up to fifth before dropping to sixth again. We had a red flag with about 10 laps to go. Unfortunately, we had a mechanical problem and we couldn’t get fired back off so that ended our night early.”

Scelzi was credited with a 20th-place finish.

Next up, Scelzi is heading to Ohio this weekend to race on Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. It will mark his first race away from his home region this season.
