AN INTERVIEW WITH CHIP GANASSI RACING TEAMS OWNER CHIP GANASSI AND DRIVER SCOTT DIXON AT MID-OHIO SPORTS CAR COURSE:

Q: YOU’VE KNOWN THIS (TARGET DEPARTING AFTER END OF 2016 VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES SEASON-IT’S 27TH AS SPONSOR OF CGR) FOR A WHILE, SO WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

CHIP GANASSI: When you say we’ve known it for a while, the answer for us is we wanted to make sure we knew exactly what was what. There is no aggravation and I have nothing bad to say. They are the greatest sponsor ever in the sport and the greatest partner anybody could ever have. They’ve been around for 27 years and 11 Indy car championships and four Indy 500 wins. I can understand that maybe they want to do something else. I understand that. Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Mid-Ohio–Scott Dixon →

TEAM CHEVY DRIVER PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT
JULY 29, 2016

JEFF GORDON, INTERIM DRIVER, NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Pocono Raceway and discussed his thoughts on last weekend’s race at Indy, staying hydrated, the challenges his faces this weekend at Pocono, his thoughts on if he will continue his fill-in role and many other topics. Full Transcript:

TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU’VE HAD GOING ON RECENTLY:
“Mexico was on business for Axalta. I’ve been busy. A lot of these things that were already scheduled and then to throw in these two races has definitely made it a very hectic schedule. I’ve not even been home to get a new set of clothes. So, I was doing some laundry this week myself as well. As far as Pocono, it was nice to get that race under my belt at Indy. I feel a little more confident in understanding the car and the limits and the competition and working with Greg (Ives) and the No. 88 team. I felt like they did a really nice job in Indianapolis. I didn’t do them any favors on the restarts, but luckily got a few back on that last corner to get a decent finish. This week a little bit different preparation than last week. Get fitted in the car, debrief with the team from Indianapolis and then preparation for Pocono. Didn’t have test video from some of our teammates for here like we did last week at Indianapolis and I didn’t have time to get in the driving simulator either. The first few laps today were definitely again a steep learning curve. This is a very challenging race track so it’s going to be a tough, challenging weekend, but I do like this track and a little bit to learn with this new package.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Jeff Gordon →

Scelzi Returning to Action at Attica Raceway Park and Wayne County Speedway

Scelzi Returning to Action at Attica Raceway Park and Wayne County Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (July 28, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi is rejuvenated following a weekend off to rebuild his race program.

The team will return to action this weekend with a pair of races in Ohio on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica and Saturday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville.

“We were low on equipment with a couple of nights of bad luck,” he said. “It’s the nature of the beast when you’re on those big, fast tracks. We spent the last week and a half rebuilding our race team. I look forward to getting back on the track this weekend.”

Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed team are also changing their plan throughout the next month. They will pick up various regional races in Ohio and the Midwest and will skip the Knoxville Nationals before joining the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series through North Dakota and along the West Coast in August and September.

“We’re going to take it week by week and try to return to some tracks we’ve only gone to once to see our growth,” Scelzi said. “We’re going to stick to racing two or three times a week and at places we’ve been before rather than a new track every week.”

Scelzi has competed at each of this weekend’s tracks once, which was during Ohio Speedweek with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions last month. Scelzi finished seventh in the B Main at Attica Raceway Park to narrowly miss a transfer into the main event and he posted a 13th-place result at Wayne County Speedway.

“We were running eighth at Wayne County and I hit a hole, which spun the car out,” he said. “I think we would have had a top 10 if that hadn’t happened. Hopefully we can go back and earn a top 10 at each track to build some momentum.”

Watkins Glen Test A Good Tune-Up For Pocono

Watkins Glen Test A Good Tune-Up For Pocono
July 28, 2016

Ryan Blaney and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane team spent Tuesday and Wednesday of this week testing their No. 21 Ford Fusion at Watkins Glen International in preparation for the Aug. 7 Cheez-It at the Glen.

But crew chief Jeremy Bullins said the two-day test also will benefit the team this weekend at Pocono Raceway.

“It’s not a bad thing to have a road-course mindset going into Pocono,” Bullins said. “With the three distinct corners, you’re usually looking at how to make a car better in different circumstances, much like a road course. On top of that the strategy plays out much like a road course as well.”

There are other similarities too. Continue reading Watkins Glen Test A Good Tune-Up For Pocono →

Marathon Petroleum’s Allen Johnson Hopes to Go Two for Two at Sonoma Nationals

Marathon Petroleum’s Allen Johnson Hopes to Go Two for Two at Sonoma Nationals

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (July 26, 2016) – Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson has one Western Swing race win under his belt and as this weekend’s race at Sonoma Raceway approaches, being the first non-KB winner of the season is giving his team some serious propulsion.

“After a few days of rest at home, we are ready and excited about going to the wine country in Sonoma,” Johnson said. “We’re going to repair some parts we hurt in Denver and try some new combinations at this race so I’m looking forward to seeing the results from that too.”

Since his win at the end of the 2015 season and the last race with carburetors, the Pro Stock class has only seen two winners that both belong to the KB Racing team. It is only fitting that Allen Johnson was the first to take home the win in Denver and claim his spot as the first non-KB car to win and the first Mopar Pro Stocker to win a race in 2016.

“Sweeping the Swing” is on every racer’s mind when it comes to the Western Swing. With one race down, Johnson is that much closer to becoming the second driver in Pro Stock history to sweep all three races.

“We have always carried momentum into the Western Swing and hopefully we can do the same this year.”

F4 U.S. FINALIZES SCHEDULE BY ADDING EAST COAST EVENT

F4 U.S. FINALIZES SCHEDULE BY ADDING EAST COAST EVENT
New Jersey Motorsports Park to host F4 U.S. Championship from Aug. 26-28

INDIANAPOLIS (July 26, 2016) – The schedule for the inaugural season of the Formula 4 United States Championship powered by Honda has been finalized with New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, New Jersey, hosting the series Aug. 26-28.

The F4 U.S. Championship, a new youth-driven open-wheel championship series, debuted July 1-3 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the addition of the event at New Jersey Motorsports Park finalizes the schedule at five race weekends.

“New Jersey Motorsports Park is unfinished business for the F4 U.S. series because we had to postpone our race there earlier this summer,” SCCA Pro Racing President and CEO Derrick Walker said. “We certainly appreciate their patience and willingness to work with us to have us back for an exciting round coming up in August.”

The F4 U.S. Championship will join three additional Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) sanctioned open-wheel divisions at New Jersey Motorsports Park: the Formula F 1600 Championship, the F2000 Championship and the Atlantic Championship Series. The F4 U.S. Championship joined the same three championship series during its inaugural weekend at Mid-Ohio.

The next scheduled race for the F4 U.S. Championship takes place Aug. 11-13 at Mid-Ohio, leaving less than two weeks before the start of the event in New Jersey.

“The amendment of the schedule will leave 13 days between our second showing at Mid-Ohio to the third event held in New Jersey,” Walker said. “Typically teams have a month or longer to prepare for a race. Putting the time constraint on these new drivers will help develop them for the real world of professional racing.”
