Kirsty Widdrington – BDC Round 3 “Teesside Autodrome”

I was so excited to get back to the British Drift Championship & I wasn’t disappointed! The atmosphere was electric with happy, excited people.
I personally the drift family & have missed the UK family very much, I was welcomed with open arms & there was smiles all round.
I will be back for a full season of the BDC next year whilst hopefully attending some European events to gain even further exposure for you – my fantastic sponsors.

It felt so good to be back on “home turf” & the feedback on Syril’s new 2016 look was amazing!Practice on the Saturday started & after a few laps we soon got to grips with the line the judges required the drivers to attack which was a high line around the first corner – get this wrong & it’s game over to carry the speed through to clip 3 & onwards throughout the rest of the track.
Syril felt sprightly & solid underneath me as we attacked the track.

My 1st qualifying lap felt great however I felt I could have gone a tad faster, so my 2nd qualifying lap was indeed faster but with 2 minor corrections during this run this meant that my 1st run was the highest scoring run which qualified me into 22nd position & wow how the BDC driving level has changed this year is amazing!

So my 1st top 32 battle saw me face Steve Will in his crazy 3.2 Turbocharged M3 Engined BMW.
He is such a nice guy & we passed the time in the queue talking drifting & about our battle to come.
With Steve leading we left the start line & found myself hurtling off the track – however luckily for me once back on track at the next corner a red flag was waving as it was a false start. So I was fortunate enough to have this second chance & I wasn’t going to let that go.
We pulled off of the line for the second time & it soon became apparent when he hit 3rd & 4th gear that his car was an absolute beast with insane power & grip levels meaning myself & Syril simply couldn’t keep up, So Will & his BMW hot footed it away from us pulling a 2-3 car lengths.

The second run with myself leading was faultless but needless to say there was no gap between myself & Will due to the massive power difference that he had so sadly due to the gap he pulled in the first battle Will rightly carried on in the battles & sadly that was our day over.
So back into the pits to put Syril back on display for the public to see & off I went to watch & cheer on the rest of the battles.

Sunday night saw Syril being loaded back onto the truck to be transported back to Ireland for DLR Motorsports to check over, prep & change the fluids in Syril making sure that he is in tip top shape ready for IDC Round 4 in Watergrass Hill in a few weeks time.
