Summit Racing–Anderson’s Summit Racing Camaro Speedy in Sonoma

Anderson’s Summit Racing Camaro Speedy in Sonoma

SONOMA, Calif., July 31, 2015 – The first day of qualifying at the 28th annual NHRA Sonoma Nationals reminded Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing Pro Stock team just how much they love the sea level conditions and smooth-as-silk racing surface at Sonoma Raceway. Anderson, powering the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, grabbed an early lead and ended Day One in Sonoma in the No. 3 position. He will have two more chances on Saturday to grab the top spot for the KB Racing team.

The air was an incredibly pleasant 76 degrees Fahrenheit and the track temperature was a manageable 108F for the first session. Anderson and his Rob Downing-led crew moved swiftly down the racing surface with the best run of the round, a 6.507-second pass at 212.16 mph that set a new Sonoma Raceway track record for elapsed time.

With the provisional pole in sight, six-time Sonoma low qualifier Anderson and company had high hopes heading into the later and even cooler session on the first day of the event, but they surprisingly stumbled and forfeited a smidge of time. He clocked a 6.517, 211.79 that was third-quickest of the session but not quick enough to protect his No. 1 run from earlier in the day.

“We started off with a heck of a bang,” said Anderson, who accumulated a total of four bonus points on the first day in Sonoma. “We made a little mistake on my car tonight – we made a little adjustment and it just went the wrong way. But we made a great run earlier today, and I know we can certainly go back to that. My teammate Jason Line improved with his Summit Racing Chevy Camaro tonight, and we’re sitting No. 2 and No. 3. We certainly have the capability to be No. 1 and No. 2, and it’s great to have that confidence.

“We love this racetrack. We’ve always been able to run well here. We can tell already that it’s going to be a great weekend; the Pro Stock cars are fast and fun to drive here. All in all, it was a good Friday and a good start. We’ll make it an even better day Saturday.”
