Summit Racing–Anderson Starts Strong in Early Topeka Qualifying

Anderson Starts Strong in Early Topeka Qualifying

TOPEKA, Kan., May 22, 2015 – The first day of qualifying for the 27th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals has Greg Anderson in a very good position. The driver of the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro wheeled his fast racecar to the provisional No. 2 spot on Friday at Heartland Park Topeka, and with an ever-increasing program, he and his KB Racing crew are looking forward to another two shots at the Kansas drag strip before the field is set.

In the first round of qualifying, Anderson was strong and able. He powered down the quarter-mile racetrack to a quick and fast 6.526-second pass at 211.20 mph that brought home two bonus qualifying points and placed him in the No. 2 position in the lineup. Anderson’s best qualifying position this season has been third, in which he has qualified twice (Las Vegas and Houston).

“The first round of qualifying was good,” said Anderson, who resides in Mooresville, N.C. “I had a little bit of a problem there in the second run, but it was no major deal – and we’ll get that fixed for tomorrow. It was a good day.”

Anderson’s run in the second session was a still respectable 6.550 at a slowing 206.32. Although he did not improve in the second round of qualifying, no one was able to get around him. He stayed No. 2 for the day.

“We were actually surprised that we got two runs today,” said Anderson. “The weatherman didn’t seem very optimistic this morning, but we did get those two runs and heck, now we feel like we’re ahead of the schedule. This is the highest I’ve been qualified in awhile, and we’re getting closer to that No. 1. I really want it; I’m itching for it. But today was good, and we’re hoping for another god day tomorrow. We end the day on a positive note, and we’ll see what the rest of the weekend brings.”

Anderson, a 75-time No. 1 qualifier in NHRA Pro Stock competition whose last No. 1 was in Seattle in 2010, will have two more chances to grasp his 76th pole. Qualifying is set to resume at 1:30 on Saturday.
