Line No. 5 for Now, Focused on Dialing in for Day Two at Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan., May 22, 2015 – Jason Line and the KB Racing team are continuing their trend of bringing two fast cars to the racetrack at this weekend’s 27th annual NHRA Kansas Nationals. Line, currently qualified in the No. 5 position in his blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, is looking forward to the second day of the event at Heartland Park Topeka and the opportunity to dial into the exact right setup and climb in the qualifying order. On the heels of three consecutive No. 1 qualifier awards, Line knows he has a capable team and a very capable racecar.

The conditions in Topeka were surprisingly cool on Friday and quite the turnaround from years past, when hot and windy conditions made it tricky as can be to get the Pro Stock cars good and comfortable. In addition, the predicted rain for the day did not make an appearance, and both sessions were, surprisingly, run to completion.

In the first round of qualifying, Line raced to a nice and clean 6.537-second pass at 210.83 mph. He was fourth quickest for the session and ready for more, and with a concentrated effort by crew chief Rob Downing and his KB Racing crew, he came back with a 6.535, 210.67. It wasn’t quite the improvement the team was looking for, but it was a steady pass that left Line in the No. 5 spot for the night.

“We’re just a tick off – not a mile, just a little bit,” said Line, who has started from the top half in nine of his 11 prior Topeka appearances. “The Pro Stock cars are obviously fussy, and if you’re off even just a little bit, it shows. All in all, though, we made two decent runs with my Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro.

“We’re having a good time so far out here at Heartland Park this weekend. The weather held up today – and hopefully it holds up for the rest of the weekend. I’d like to think that we can improve on the 6.51 (currently the quickest run of the field). We’re a little off from where we feel we can run with our Summit Racing Camaros, and there is definitely some left – but we’re going to have to make some changes. The car isn’t quite as happy here as it was last weekend [during Atlanta qualifying], but I’m confident that we can get it where it needs to be. We’ll find out for sure tomorrow.”
