AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 DOW CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at the annual Daytona 500 media day at Daytona International Speedway. Full Transcript:

YOU’VE HAD TOP 10’S AT RESTRICTOR PLATE TRACKS. WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET FROM REALLY GOOD, TO WINNING?
“To take it to the next level, I think I’ve watched a lot of tape seeing what it’s going to take and sat down with our engineers and crew chiefs. I think the biggest thing is just getting a little bit more aggressive in the side-drafting department. If you watched the Clash, I think I did a pretty good job. It’s probably one of the best drafting races I’ve ever had, I think, looking back at it. We put ourselves in a position against two different sets of teammates to have a shot to win. I’m looking forward to the opportunity in the 500. I don’t know what was wrong with our car. We didn’t have the qualifying run that we wanted. We will tune on it all we can for the Duels. And I think if I draft like I did in the Clash, we’ll be just fine.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Austin Dillon →

“Just watched a little bit in drafting. You know, we were up there with very competitive cars in the Clash and we were able to learn some stuff. It’s going to take some practice, but it could really help me in the 500.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona–Media Day–Chris Buescher →

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 CATERPILLAR CHEVROLET SS, met with media Daytona 500 Media Day. Full transcript:

ON THE UPCOMING SEASON: “I look forward to the opportunity. It is another chance to win a championship, obviously win some races and get back into the victory column. I think there is a lot of exciting changes that promote a lot of positive things within our sport with respect to Monster coming in; the new points system; the chance for the accumulative effort toward the championship versus a playoff-type round system that creates everybody back to equal after you have earned something. It is nice to see that part of it. I think that is the biggest, most important change that applies to our season and how the point structure works and the opportunities we have to become a champion.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona–Media Day–Ryan Newman →

PAUL MENARD, NO. 27 MENARDS/PEAK CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at the annual Daytona 500 media day at Daytona International Speedway. Full Transcript:

DO YOU THINK THE SEGMENTS ARE GOOD FOR SPONSORS WHO MIGHT NOT GET A VICTORY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?
“Yeah I mean anytime you win something it’s a good thing. It opens up a few more opportunities per race to win something, even though the segments are just minutiae compared to the actual race win, but it still pays points and carries over throughout the year. That is all good, just like you said, just opportunities to get more points. I don’t know what happens if you win the first segment. Somebody is going to win the first segment next Sunday and we are going to see what happens, but I’m going to say that it’s pretty anticlimactic if you do win it, but it’s going to go down in the history books as the first segment winner.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Paul Menard →
