Seven Chevy SS Drivers in Top 10

MARTINSVILLE, Va. – (April 3, 2016) – AJ Allmendinger finished second in his No. 47 Kroger/Butterfinger/Coffee-mate Chevrolet SS and led a parade of seven Team Chevy drivers in the top 10 finishing order at the STP 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway, the sixth round of the 2016 season. This was Allmendinger’s fourth top-10 effort and second runner-up finish at the 0.526-mile, paper-clipped shaped track.

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 TARGET CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, scored the 39th victory of his career. The defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion has won a race in 12 consecutive seasons, a Series’ record. He led the final 155 laps of tonights 250-lap race, the first at Phoenix International Raceway for the Series since 2005. Quick quote: YOU MADE THAT LOOK EASY, BUT IT WASN’T, WAS IT?
“It was tough. It was definitely one of the toughest races on these short ovals. I definitely think we can make some adjustments to get some more side-by-side stuff going on. But right now, I’m just so happy for the team. Team Target did an amazing job. It’s fantastic to have the lightning bulb back on the car. It’s the first win for this team at Phoenix. Chevy did an amazing job. But I can’t give enough credit to the crew. They did the best they could and I just tried to keep it on the track.”

HOW PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WAS THIS RACE?
“It was a bit of both really. You had different paces. The car was super-fast. We, I think, had the best car out there. We got a lot of it done on strategy in some of the pit stops, but the Target car was just extremely fast the whole night. Yeah, definitely in Turns 1 and 2, there is a lot of loading and I can’t thank the team enough. They did an amazing job.”

“There’s nothing wrong with that. We definitely had our bad luck; I think at St. Pete, we did with some overheating issues. We’re a strong team. We’re always strong; and if we can figure out the start of the season, I think we’ll definitely make the end a little easier for us. But this is the Verizon Indycar Series; man, it’s tough, no matter what. And you’ve got to get points whenever you can no matter what circumstances. But it’s great to be back in Phoenix. Thanks to all the fans for coming out tonight. I can’t wait to come back next week.”

HELIO CASTRONEVES EARNS POLE, SETS PHOENIX TRACK RECORD
Team Penske driver leads Chevrolet to top 10 positions in qualifications on oval

PHOENIX (April 1, 2016) – Team Penske’s Helio Castroneves broke the 20-year-old Phoenix International Raceway track record on the way to earning the Verizon P1 Award for the pole position for the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix.

Castroneves’ first lap of 19.0997 seconds (192.631 mph) in single-car qualifications on the 1.022-mile oval eclipsed the record set by two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Scottsdale, Arizona, resident Arie Luyendyk. Castroneves, driving the No. 3 REV Group Team Penske Chevrolet, earned the pole with a two-lap average speed of 192.324 mph.

KASEY KAHNE PAVES THE WAY IN QUALIFYING FOR CHEVROLET AT MARTINSVILLE
Five Chevy SS Race Cars Qualify in Top Six
MARTINSVILLE, Va. (April 1, 2016) – Kasey Kahne led the way for Team Chevy in knock-out style qualifying for the STP 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway with a lap of 19.515 seconds, 97.033 mph in his No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS. With his solid run, Kahne will start on the outside front row in the 40-car field for Sunday’s 500-lap event at the 0.526-mile paper-clipped shaped venue. This marks his second top-10 start of 2016 and ninth in 25 races at Martinsville Speedway.

“This Great Clips Chevrolet was really fast,” said Kahne. “The guys did a nice job in practice and in qualifying. I just kept getting better with my laps. We didn’t make any adjustments. The car is fine. I feel good about the car and we just need to work through it tomorrow in practice and get it driving the best we can for long runs.”

Brian Vickers qualified third in the No. 14 Janssen Arnie’s Army Charitable Foundation Chevrolet SS and posted his fourth top-10 start at Martinsville Speedway. This was also his first top-10 start in four races this season as the interim driver for Tony Stewart and Stewart-Haas Racing.

Richard Childress Racing (RCR) teammates Paul Menard and Ryan Newman qualified 4th and 5th in the No. 27 Libman/Menards Chevy SS and the No. 31 Grainger Chevrolet SS, respectively.

AJ Allmendinger was sixth fastest in his No. 47 Kroger/Butterfinger/Coffee-mate Chevrolet SS, giving Team Chevy five of the top-six starting positions.

Chase Elliott was the top-qualifying Rookie-of-the-Year contender with a strong 10th place run in his No. 24 3M Chevy SS.

Joey Logano (Ford) was the pole winner.

POST QUALIFYING PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT:

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 GREAT CLIPS CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 2ND

ON STARTING ON THE OUTSIDE POLE:
“That was really good to get quicker each round. Each round we gained speed, I gained speed driving and that was the key. I think coming up here today my main goal was to qualify and to figure out how to get that best pit stall that we can. That means a lot on Sunday. Pit road in and out is a huge part of starting position each run, especially under the cautions. It is a big part of our weekend getting up there and now we just have tomorrow to work on the car some more. They gave me a great Great Clips Chevrolet. I’m glad that we were able to get really close to first. Ended up second, but we were really close.”

WHAT KIND OF MOMENTUM BOOST DOES THIS GIVE YOU GOING INTO THE REST OF THE WEEKEND?
“I think it gives me a lot of momentum. It gives us some confidence that we can go fast running as a single car. Usually it seems like the longer the races go here I have cars to judge off of. I run much better laps and my speed gets better throughout a race rather than practice and qualifying. I feel good about that. I know the team will be ready. My pit crew is as good as anything here. I’m looking forward to giving them a good stall and having great stops on Sunday which is a big part of this race.”

HOW AGONIZING IS IT TO HAVE BEEN SO CLOSE TO THE POLE? DOES THAT MAKE YOU SECOND GUESS SOMETHING YOU DID OUT THERE?
“Not really. I knew my second lap was decent, but not good enough. I got a little more on entry to both corners the third lap and used my exit up. So as soon as I crossed the line I knew that was my best lap and I was coming in regardless. On my dash it said 19.510, so I was like ‘man that might be the pole’, but it really was .515 or whatever so it was a little off Joey (Logano, pole sitter), but it was really close. That was my best lap. I couldn’t run another one.”

DOES THE DOWNFORCE PACKAGE COME INTO PLAY HERE AT ALL? HOW DO YOU LIKE THE PACKAGE?
“I think it will come into play a little. Anytime you push the throttle hard you give up a little bit of that rear spoiler. I think on a long run, it’s not going to be something that we feel a lot of, but if you add the other one on a long run with old tires I think you would definitely get off the corner a little bit better with what we had last year here. Just be able to have more grip from the rear tires, but it’s not going to change a whole lot at this particular track I don’t think. Some of the other race tracks we have raced at to me the first… every track up to California I could get much closer to the back of a car and still run similar lap times to where I was. I didn’t lose near as much. I didn’t have to try to get as far away from that guy as possible to keep my speed up like I felt last year. California was a little different. It seemed to get tighter the closer we got, which was different than the other tracks, but I guess that is probably just the way that track races or how our car was that day. That is how I felt. Luckily that track is so wide you have plenty of space to go looking for room. I think to this part of the season it has definitely been better, easier to get closer to the car in front of you. You don’t slow down near as much when you are right behind them. I think that is a huge gain from where we were. I definitely like it.”

DID YOU PRACTICE IN RACE TRIM AT ALL TODAY? IF SO WERE YOU HAPPY WITH THE CAR? DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE SPRINT CAR WIN LAST WEEKEND GAVE YOU SOME MUCH NEEDED MOMENTUM?
“I think the car was close in race trim, I could run consistent lap times. They weren’t as quick as, I think I saw (Kyle) Larson was faster like consecutive laps and there might have been another car there. I thought I was comparable to (Kevin) Harvick and a few guys. Friday, super clean, grippy race track really means nothing compared to Sunday in race trim. But, I felt comfortable and felt like we had consistent speed. We need to work on that a lot more tomorrow and then the track changes a good bit for Sunday so everything is different then. I thought our car handled nicely. Last weekend’s win was a blast for me. I was glad I went and raced. That is what I wanted to do on Easter weekend was race a sprint car and I did it and we ended up winning a race. It felt really good.”

HOW NICE IS IT TO FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE SOME SPEED IN THE CAR? THE FACT THAT YOU QUALIFY WELL AFTER A SPRINT CAR RACE DOES THAT MEAN YOU CAN CONVINCE RICK (HENDRICK) TO LET YOU DO MORE?
“No, I think the sprint car races are going to be on the off weekends, like what Mr. H said just don’t let it interfere with what we’ve got going on on the Cup side. I don’t want it to interfere with that, but I enjoy doing that stuff once in a while. It was good. I will do a little bit more throughout the season when there is time and that will be it. I felt good about last weekend. I feel good about today. There were times at California Speedway, we had a flat right-rear so we got a lap behind changing that tire under green and it was a super hard fight to get back to where we wanted to be. I felt we were a fifth to 10th place car on lap times throughout the majority of that race. It just wasn’t our day, but I don’t think we are that far off. We just need to keep working together as a team complimenting each other and pushing each other and having each other’s backs. If we do that we are going to get much better.”

YOU WERE ON THE FRONT ROW A FEW TIMES LAST YEAR. IT’S NOT BEEN THAT LONG AGO THAT YOU QUALIFIED WELL. HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IS IT QUALIFYING ON THE FRONT ROW AS OPPOSED TO BEING SAY IN THE TOP 10?
“I think it’s a big difference. I think that one thing is this year I think our speed is a little better than last year in qualifying. I feel like we have been eighth to 12th probably on the majority of the races. I mean some crazy stuff happened at some of them and we didn’t get those results, but I think we have been kind of an eighth to 12th-place car which is better than last year, but when you are in the front two rows that is a big difference from qualifying around 12th in my opinion. A big difference with what you feel about your car, what you think about your car and also what the guys think about it. I think a front row starting spot shows that our car is plenty capable it is just up to what we do tomorrow and our communication and then what we do on Sunday.”

DID YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES?
“My brakes were really good. That is something that changes a lot. There are a lot of little changes that you have with brakes each race. At Martinsville they have to be really solid to work with them here. You have front and rear brake and some adjustments there as a driver, but I was really comfortable with my brakes. I locked my left-front a little bit in practice on my second to last lap and so we adjusted accordingly for that. I was fine in qualifying.”

YOU HAVE A PROGRAM GOING ON THROUGH THE DALE EARNHARDT, JR. FOUNDATION THAT KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND. CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT?
“We are working with Nationwide Children’s Hospital to raise money for the hospital. Last year we did this gloves program, where we wore a pair of gloves each month and auction them off on eBay. This year we are doing that again and we are going to do it four months this year. This is the first month where we will be wearing blue gloves the whole month for autism awareness. We are really excited to be able to announce that program. We have thought of different ways to get creative each year. We have done it a little bit differently each year to try to raise as much money and awareness as we can. Look forward to releasing more information throughout the season as we go along. This will be the first month. We hope to be able to raise a lot of money. If we can win a few races it definitely makes those gloves a little more valuable. Veteran tuner helps propel Robert Hight and Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS to points lead entering fourth round of Mello Yello NHRA Drag Racing Series

Mike Neff, a two-time National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Funny Car championship crew chief and race-winning Funny Car driver, has been paired with John Force Racing Funny Car driver Robert Hight since midway through the 2013 season. The Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS team is off to a fast start this season, with a victory at the Gatornationals two weeks ago and two other semifinal appearances. Hight, who is 8-2 in eliminations, is the Funny Car points leader entering the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Neff shares insights on the season so far:

Q: A successful season starts with a solid foundation. What did the off-season program focus on to contribute to such a strong start to the 2016 Funny Car season?
MIKE NEFF: The off-season was more detail-oriented and refining what we had. We finished last season fairly strong; Robert’s car was running good. He won Vegas, the second to the last race, and won Brainerd, so coming down to the end of the year we were definitely getting better and felt like we were really close to what we wanted. Over the winter we filled in a couple of gaps and polished what we had, and came out this year and it’s just clicked. We hit on a few things in testing, which put us right in the middle of it. At the beginning of last year, we had to take a step back because we changed our whole clutch program around by adding another disc (from five to six discs), and that is a big learning curve. When you do that, you pretty much shelve your history of what you’ve done and go down a new road and sort it out. That was part of the reason why we didn’t perform as well as we usually do. At the end of the year it all started to come together, and we just looked at refinements in the off-season. It’s continued early this year in that we’re looking the best we have in a long time. DETROIT – Two states, three series, seven victories. Chevrolet Racing enjoyed a successful weekend, winning in NASCAR, IMSA and NHRA races held in California and Florida.

When Jimmie Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet SS and six-time series champion, won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., late Sunday, it capped a successful weekend for Chevrolet that saw multiple victories across multiple series:

· In IMSA, Corvette’s success in endurance races continued on Saturday with its GTLM class victory in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring in Sebring, Fla.; the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R – driven by Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fassler – won its second straight race to open the season.
· In NHRA, Chevrolet swept the 47th Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.:
§ John Force Racing’s Brittany Force earned her first career Top Fuel victory
§ JFR’s Robert Hight (Chevrolet Camaro SS) won in Funny Car for the 37th time in his career

· In NASCAR, Johnson’s victory in the Sprint Cup race in Fontana followed Austin Dillon’s (No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro) win on Saturday in the Xfinity Series race at Auto Club Speedway; Dillon also won the pole for Sunday’s Sprint Cup race.

“Going into a race weekend, our goal is to win every series and in every class,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “The Chevrolet teams, crews and drivers really delivered when it counted, with seven victories this weekend. Kevin Harvick (No. 4 Chevrolet SS) finished second in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event to give Chevrolet a 1-2 finish. In addition, Johnson’s victory also was the 77th of his career, moving him past the legendary Dale Earnhardt into sole possession of seventh place on NASCAR’s all-time wins list.

Corvette Racing now has won the last five of the world’s top endurance races: Sebring and Daytona in 2016, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona in 2015.

In addition, Chevrolet Performance-sponsored Donny Schatz of Tony Stewart Racing won two World of Outlaws events in Stockton, Calif., over the weekend.

SEBRING, Fla. (March 19, 2016) – Corvette Racing’s Triple Crown streak continued Saturday with a 10th class victory in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida. Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fässler in the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R won their second straight race to open the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) season to go along with a victory in the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

It is the second straight victory at Sebring for Corvette Racing and the third in four years. Milner drove the final two hours and 50 minutes to win by 2.882 seconds. The team has won the last five of the world’s top endurance races – Daytona and Sebring in 2015 and 2016, plus the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015.

“Great driving, teamwork and execution in the pits were keys to today’s GTLM class victory for the No. 4 Corvette C7.R team in the 12 Hours of Sebring,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “To come from two laps down and win in a field as competitive as the IMSA GTLM class is a true reflection of the never-give-up attitude of the Corvette Racing team.

Campbell added, “This win is special because it Corvette Racing’s second consecutive win at Sebring and follows win at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona. The IMSA season is off to an exciting start.”

Milner drove the first two hours, 50 minutes in Corvette Racing’s No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R and was third at the time of a red flag for lightning and track conditions. Milner had led the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class midway through the opening quarter thanks to a strong first pit stop by the Corvette Racing crew and being able to take on wet tires 90 minutes into the race just before the pit entry closed due to a crash on track.

Fässler got in the No. 4 Corvette not long after the two-hour, 15-minute stoppage and drove in some of the most challenging conditions. He switched from slick to wet and back to slick Michelin tires during his stint as the track surface and weather changed throughout with his pace improving as his stint wore on. Gavin then took over on a dry track with less than five hours to go. He drove two-plus hours and got the Corvette back on the GTLM lead lap before Milner drove to the end.

The No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller also was a contender for a repeat victory at Sebring before the car suffered heavy damage when another GTLM competitor hit Magnussen at the entry to Turn One, which sent both cars hard into the outside tire barrier. Magnussen, part of the GTLM-winning effort with Garcia a year ago, had just taken the lead in class with less than a little less than five hours remaining in the race.

Magnussen was evaluated and released from the Sebring infield care center, but the car suffered significant damage to the driver’s side and rear internal components. The No. 3 Corvette Racing crew worked feverishly to repair the car, and it returned to the race less than 45 minutes after it arrived in the team’s paddock.

Despite the setback, the No. 3 Corvette completed enough laps for ninth-place points.

Action Express Racing Nets Two Podium Finishes
A year after claiming Chevrolet’s first overall victory at Sebring in 50 years, Action Express Racing again climbed the overall podium with both of its Corvette Daytona Prototypes. The No. 31 Whelen Engineering/Team Fox Corvette DP of Dane Cameron, Eric Curran and Scott Pruett placed second overall. The trio finished just 2.926 behind the race-winning Prototype.

“I am proud of how the Corvette DP teams and drivers raced at Sebring,” Campbell said. “They raced hard all day long and secured two podium positions at this challenging track.”

Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi, last year’s winners in the Action Express No. 5 Mustang Sampling Corvette DP, teamed with Felipe Albuquerque to finish third overall Saturday. Their Corvette DP led the most laps.

Marc Goossens, Ryan Dalziel and Ryan Hunter-Reay finished fifth in Visit Florida Racing’s No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP; Wayne Taylor Racing’s quartet of Jordan and Ricky Taylor, Max Angelelli and Rubens Barrichello placed 12th in class in their No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP.

The next event for Corvette Racing and the Corvette DPs is the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Saturday, April 16 from the Long Beach (California) street circuit.

OLIVER GAVIN, CORVETTE RACING NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “The race started with us not knowing how much pace we were going to have compared to our competition. Then Tommy and Antonio were both marching up the order. Tommy got us into the lead with some great pit stops and some good strategy. Then of course the rain came and we had that big stoppage. It is hard to get yourself focused after that. But you do, you manage, you use your experience and you get going again. Then it was a case of us battling away with a few things – some bits and pieces – the weather; the track; the tires – generally the conditions. I got the car back onto the lead lap and got us into the top-three. Then I handed it over to Tommy and he did a great, great job. I knew we were in great position toward the end of my double-stint because I knew the car was good because it was underneath me. It had a little bit too much understeer hear and there, but the car was really strong. We got back on the lead lap and into the right spot. Tommy could then get it and run to the end. He had been on fire all day. I had to do exactly what he did at Daytona which was sit on the pit box and watch and fret and pace and stress about is there going to be another yellow. Or is this going to happen, or is that going to happen? Is the last pit stop going to go okay. The guys did a brilliant job with that. Once again the team had their stresses and strain through the day. Jan’s accident was huge and it just shows the quality of the car and the ability of the team to bounce back from that and get that car back out. It was just an exceptional day again. This is 60 hours of racing that we’ve won with the No. 4 with Le Mans, Daytona 24 Hours and now Sebring 12 Hours. That is just amazing that we have been able to do that in the last 12 months. I am very, very happy with the performance of the whole team.”

TOMMY MILNER, CORVETTE RACING NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “What a race. We sort of had an up-and-down race. At the start of the race the car wasn’t super quick, but we weren’t bad by any means. We had a great pit stop there and got me to the lead. Then the rain came, and we weren’t super good in the wet for sure… third or fourth quick there for sure. But then when I got in at the end, I’ve NEVER had a race car that good. That Corvette was absolutely on rails and I could tell as soon as I left pit lane… I knew we had a fast race car. I just immediately knew – the car felt that good. We didn’t have the best car at the start; certainly not in the rain. But at the end we had THE best car – here we are P1. I’m super, super happy for these guys – for Oliver and Marcel. And for all the crew guys. They have worked super hard. Just fortunate to be in the car there at the end and get to have some fun like that.”

MARCEL FÄSSLER, CORVETTE RACING NO. 4 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM RACE WINNER: “It’s an amazing day. Two events with Corvette Racing and two wins. I’m really, really happy and proud to be a part of this winning team. Looking back at my race, it was quite tough after the red flag for me. I had never driven this track in the wet, especially not in a GT car. It was difficult to find the right racing line early but after that I felt OK. On my last stop, I think we went a little too early on slick tires, and it was really tricky for me to stay on track. Unfortunately I went off and hit one of the banners. We had to stop because the engine was getting warm. So yes it was a tricky situation. We lost some laps but we were able to catch up. Oliver and Tommy did a really good job out there. It was great to watch them, especially Tommy. I think he did half the race which was really impressive and an unbelievable job. The team made no mistakes and the car was a rocket.”

ANTONIO GARCIA, CORVETTE RACING NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED NINTH IN GTLM: “When the rain came, it was a bit of a disaster. It looked from the outside like it was hero time for everybody wanting to take a risk. I wasn’t that keen on doing that. I stayed safe but aggressive. I stayed in touch with the leaders. But it was very, very difficult with the conditions. I don’t know how the 25 BMW and I didn’t crash at the end of the straight. We were literally navigating for half a straight not controlling the car at all. I was able to come to a full stop before the tire barriers. Luckily some other GT cars avoided me spinning, and I had a couple of cars going by sideways and backward. I avoided the wall but unfortunately the pits were closed at that time so we had to go back around on slick tires.”

JAN MAGNUSSEN, CORVETTE RACING NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED NINTH IN GTLM: “It’s such a huge shame for everyone on the team really. The weather made it really difficult out there. The decision to go to slicks felt wrong, but we did it. After awhile I could see that times were coming down and I could build a little bit of temperature. I kept working at it. I don’t know how far back we were but we were a long way but caught everything up. We got into the lead there for a very short while and then it all went south. It’s a shame. (Kevin) Estre (911 driver) came and apologized. That’s nice enough but it doesn’t change the fact that we are in here building the car. I really, really feel bad for the crew because man we were fast.”

MIKE ROCKENFELLER, CORVETTE RACING NO. 3 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – FINISHED NINTH IN GTLM: “Congrats to the No. 4 team. They did a great job. Like Daytona, we had a chance to win the race but it didn’t work out. The result for me was quite frustrating, but overall it was great to be with this team and to be part of it. I tried to everything I could. Two races… unfortunately not the results I was hoping for. But in Sebring we had all the chances. We had a car that could win especially in the dry. That is a positive.”

DOUG FEHAN, CORVETTE RACING PROGRAM MANAGER: “Just when you think you’ve seen it all – with the tremendous wins at Le Mans and Daytona – Corvette Racing comes back from one of our cars being taken out and the other two laps down with six hours to go and standing here in Victory Lane… it’s a great team, great drivers, tremendous strategy and engineering, flawless execution on pit stops. The No. 31 was good and the Action Express guys kicked butt all day long. We ended up with a top-notch finish. It would have been nice to pull out a win there. He was pedaling hard to keep the thing out front, but he didn’t have anything for the Patron car. Dane did all the heavy lifting today to be honest. He drove almost half the race. Scott did a great job and I did my best to try and screw it up for everybody. We got back on track and Dane had a good car for the end. Hats off. It was a good day for us. I look forward to going to Long Beach here in a month or so.”
DANE CAMERON, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 31 WHELEN ENGINEERING/TEAM FOX CORVETTE DP: FINISHED SECOND IN PROTOTYPE: “It was a long day. I drove a lot and I am going to sleep very well. I am really proud of the effort we put forth today in the Whelen Action Express Corvette today. I really think that was an excellent effort for today. I think we can be quite proud all around for the effort – all the drivers, all the guys in the pits, spotters. Everybody was really really great today. We just didn’t quite have enough in the last couple of laps which is obviously very disappointing to come so close. It was a strong endurance race for us so we can push on toward the championship.”

JOAO BARBOSA, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 5 MUSTANG SAMPLING CORVETTE DP – FINISHED THIRD IN PROTOTYPE: “It was good to be back in race conditions. The team did a tremendous job today with our team being the only team fighting with the P2 cars to the end. We were definitely the class of the field as a team – no problems. The car ran flawlessly, no problems at all. The car ran great. We ran as fast as we could, as strong as we could without any mistakes but it wasn’t enough today. We definitely felt like we are in a gun fight with a knife, but we came up a little bit short. It is a little bit disappointing. A little bit frustrating. We did our best and still not up there even close enough to win. But we are looking ahead to the season and the championship. We have a strong team, even stronger than last year so the future looked really great.”
FELIPE ALBUQUERQUE, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 5 MUSTANG SAMPLING CORVETTE DP – FINISHED THIRD IN PROTOTYPE: “It was a hell of a day. Crazy weather for everyone. We survived everything. We led a lot of the race. I think Joao and Christian and the team did a great job, but in the end it was just strategy and place. The P2 car was same story as Daytona. He went way too quick. I could expect him to brake so late into Turn Seven. I was at my limit. I couldn’t even brake later. It’s like that and it is so frustrating to see last seven laps with the win so close but at the same time so far because the guy was pulling so much. It is what it is. P3 was what we had.”
CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, ACTION EXPRESS RACING NO. 5 MUSTANG SAMPLING CORVETTE DP – FINISHED THIRD IN PROTOTYPE: “It was an awesome day for the whole team for Action Express to finish two and three. We definitely managed to get into the mix with the other cars. The P2s were definitely very, very strong in the race. I am very proud of everything we did this week. So close but no cigar.
