YOU REPORTED SEVERAL TIMES THAT YOU FELT A VIBRATION. IS THERE ANY EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE ENGINE LET GO?
“No, I felt earlier in the race that I had a vibration; and I said something about it. And we had some issues with drive shafts and stuff vibrating. That’s what it felt like. And then it went away, oddly enough. And then it started vibrating again; and a few laps later it finally broke.”

THERE WERE HIGH HOPES COMING INTO THIS RACE OF ADVANCING BEYOND THIS ROUND. IT WOULD APPEAR NOT THAT IT’S OVER. GIVE US YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON THIS SITUATION
“I had a good Credit One Bank Chevy. I was really happy with the car. We’ve had good cars here the last two months. Our teams have worked really hard to get the cars better. And it’s unfortunate that both the No. 42 (Kyle Larson) and the No. 1 had a problem today. But, it is what it is and that’s why we race. I’m proud of my team and proud of our guys and all the hard work they’ve put in. And it stinks that it’s over this way, but we get to race next week. So, we’ll come back and try to do it again.”

WHAT DID YOU SEE/HEAR/SMELL FROM THE DRIVER’S SEAT?
“Not a lot. It vibrated earlier in the race and it went away. And it’s weird because engine issues usually don’t go away. It felt like it had power and then I don’t know about 40 laps before it finally blew up, it just started vibrating real bad. They (the team) said what broke, but I couldn’t hear them over all the cars on the track. I’m not sure. Very unfortunate. It is just the way it goes.”

HOW DO YOU SHOW UP YOUR SHOWING AS YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION COMES TO AN END?
“I didn’t really hear you, but the No. 42 had their problem early in the race and then and then at that point I’m like well it’s kind of Austin (Dillon) and I that are going to battle this out. Our cars are pretty close so this is going to be a pretty good battle down to the end. But I’m proud of our whole organization from where we started the year to the point that we are at right now. Where you run in the top 10 every week, Kyle (Larson) won at Michigan, we just have had great cars and it stinks that it ended this way, but it is what it is.”

(Oct. 1, 2016) – Action Express Racing’s Dane Cameron and Eric Curran claimed a closely fought Prototype Driver’s Championship on Saturday, and Wayne Taylor Racing’s No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette Daytona Prototype placed third in the 10-hour Petit Le Mans presented by Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort to close the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Cameron and Curran, drivers of the No. 31 Whelen Engineering/Team Fox Corvette DP, won their first title together in their second season as teammates. OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “So far, so good. We’ve been making steps with this Corvette and we’ve been moving forward. When Tommy (Milner) was in the car, he was gaining places, he was moving up the order, and I was doing the same. We started off second after that last restart because the guys did a great job and got us out ahead of the No. 66 and then I got past the No. 62 going into Turn One on that restart. He got bumped a little bit by a PC car, but then we had pace. Our engineer, Chuck Houghton, made a good call there on the tires. We switched those up and the car was really switched-on and that was fantastic. I could drive it hard and aggressive. We managed to pull away from the Ferrari, and I could pick my points in the traffic.
“But the track is breaking up in Turn Three and that was getting worse and worse during my stint. I know the guys are looking at it. This caution has allowed us to get Marcel (Fässler) in the car. Marcel is back with us which is great. He was our lucky charm in Daytona and Sebring. He is such a great guy to have with us. Huge experience; three Le Mans wins. The guy knows endurance racing inside out. So we’ll just plug him in and see how he goes the next two hours. Then Tommy will get back in, and then I will get back in and we will see how it goes. YOU HAD AN INCREDIBLE RUN HERE LAST YEAR BUT FELL JUST A LITTLE SHORT OF GETTING TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE CHASE. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE ANOTHER INCREDIBLE RUN IN YOU AND DO YOU THINK THAT WILL BE ENOUGH TO GET YOU INTO THE NEXT ROUND?
“Last year was a lot of fun, getting to race with the No. 88 and knowing that I had to finish ahead of him in order to advance to the next round. He was ahead on one restart and I’d be ahead on the next, so that was a fun battle. As far as this year, you don’t know until you get on the track. You don’t know the circumstances, how they’re going to play out. I think the Chase hasn’t had the drama that it normally does to this point, so if you’re a guy on the outside looking in trying to advance to the next round you’re hoping that it’s a fairly dramatic race and that something big happens with somebody up front that’s going to shake it up a little. “We talk about that stuff all the time. For me, it was just a smooth restart. I just didn’t want to spin the tires. I don’t know what happened to him, or if I just timed it right. It worked out good when we got to Turn 1.”

FROM HAVING A BAD DAY LAST WEEK, HOW DOES IT FEEL TO COME TO VICTORY LANE HERE?
“Yeah, that was a game of inches last week. We wound up getting a lap down there and I had a good car. I had a fifth of sixth place car, and just wound up not being where we needed to be. But all in all, we wound up where we should have been last year, this year.”

YEAH, YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO DO DOVER AND WIN THIS TIME. WHAT DOES THAT FEEL LIKE?
“Oh, it’s definitely going to be nice. One of our main goals this year was to not stretch ourselves out so bad. I feel like the performance of the car and the things that we’re doing are good enough to be competitive, and we just need to not make mistakes and go from there.”

SO, HOW IS THE HEART RIGHT NOW?
“I’m just excited. I was content with where we were. But, once you get up there in the front like that, you’ve got to take a chance to try to win.”
