KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 2nd
DID YOU GET THE LAP YOU WERE LOOKING FOR? DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU COULD HAVE MADE UP SOME TIME?
“I felt like maybe I got in the corner a little hot and got myself a little bit too loose and to the brakes too hard. But, I feel like overall my lap was pretty good. The No. 18 (Kyle Busch) has been really fast recently, and especially in qualifying all year. So, for us to be second to him is not bad. We had the pole here earlier in the year and got encumbered, but we had to back it up with a front row start. It feels good. We’ll have a nice pit stall selection. Hopefully we can have another smooth day.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Qualifying

WHAT HAPPENED?
“I had a good first lap and entering Turn 3 for my second lap just got in there with a lot of speed anticipated it sticking, didn’t quite stick and then once I got out of the PJ1 there was just really no slowing down or directing it off the wall at that point. Came around and it got the fence. Definitely not the way we wanted to start. Frustrating, but we will take it and go figure it out” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Jimmie Johnson

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) and discussed his recent trip to Naples, Florida for Hurricane relief clean up, his thoughts on the “sticky stuff” that NHMS used in the spring race, where his team is thus far in the Playoffs and many other topics. Full Transcript:

TALK ABOUT YOUR IMPACTFUL TRIP TO NAPLES FLORIDA THIS WEEK. WHAT WAS THAT EXPERIENCE LIKE THIS WEEK?
“It was something I have really wanted to do on a couple of levels. One, I wanted to give back and then two, I know the great work that Lowe’s does in communities and I was completely blown away by their involvement once again. Went to two different stores, the people I met in stores did not live in that area, they all are spending their free time to come in and fill-in for their Lowe’s associates that need to tend to stuff at home. I thought that was amazing. People from Tennessee were all the way down in Naples, Florida just covering shifts for other Lowe’s employees. Then of course we went to a home and pitched in there. I took my daughter with me and I wanted her to grasp kind of what was going on down there. She saw plenty of coverage on television about the hurricane moving in and I just wanted to close that loop for her and take her down and experience all that. So, all-in-all just a very impactful day in Florida. I feel like there were some great lessons, great respect and appreciation I have for mankind and the way people help each other in times of need and a lot of lessons learned. Very impactful trip and I’m glad that it was so well received by our local media, the outside media, social media, it was very well received and that is cool.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Jimmie Johnson

SIMON PAGENAUD, NO. 1 DXC TECHNOLOGY CHEVROLET – Race Winner:
YOU SAID YOU HAD TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. YOU WENT WITH A FOUR-STOP STRATEGY, AND YOU HAD TO WORK FOR THIS ALL DAY
“I’m exhausted. That was as hard as I could drive for 85 laps nonstop. I can barely lift my arms right now. But I want to thank everybody on the DXC Team. It was a phenomenal, I think, all weekend. I want to congratulate Josef (Newgarden, 2017 Champion) of course, and Team Penske. Our team this weekend and all season showed how strong everybody is at Team Penske. It’s been phenomenal. It’s a great testament to a great team spirit. I’m very happy for him. He deserves it. We did what we had to do. We tried. We won the race. It wasn’t enough. But it’s a whole championship. You’ve got to be strong at every race and I guess Josef was a little stronger this year. We’re going to come back. Thirteen points makes you come back for the competition again.”

THE TWO OF YOU WERE VERY CLOSE ON YOUR FINAL PITSTOP WHEN YOU EXITED. YOU WERE AHEAD ON COLD TIRES. HOW DIFFICULT? AND YOU HAD TO PROTECT BUT MAKE SURE THERE WAS NOT CONTACT
“Yes. When I was in a preferred position, I was ahead. The tires came up to temperature really quick and I was really pushing the envelope all day. It just worked out. The tires came up to temp pretty quick and I knew Josef wasn’t going to take too many risks, either. It was a little difficult with the backmarkers, because we couldn’t get up and going. But, overall, what a beautiful day.”

WHAT DO YOU PASS ON TO YOUR TEAMMATE ABOUT THE JOB YOU’VE DONE AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A CHAMPION?
‘Well, I think obviously it’s a very competitive championship. It’s very rare to see a domination for many years. We came up short this year, but we defended really well. I’m so proud of our guys. I think we represented really well. But overall, I think it’s a team effort. But I think he’s going to be a tremendous champion. He’s American, which is great for the sport. And, he’s a kid. And I’ll tell you what, he’s very smart already.”

Q: WHAT’S THE STORY ABOUT THAT FINAL AGAINST COURTNEY (FORCE)?
ROBERT HIGHT: You have nothing to lose it the final; you have to get after it. It was a good light and a good run. We hadn’t been in the left lane all weekend, and I was a little worried about that going into the final. That was a big run for us. What’s awesome is the lineup of drivers today that we beat. Our car drove good, it had pace, our pit stops were good. I didn’t have anything for Martin (Truex, Jr.). I thought we made the most of our day without some luck I wasn’t going to get around him unless we had a late-race restart or something. “I can’t say that I necessarily expected it, but it’s really great to get the No. 2 Hum by Verizon Chevy team a Verizon P1 Award. We’ve had a few chances at it this year, but for various reasons came up a little short. Honestly, I wasn’t sure we’d get this one, but we knew the car was fast and it was good to get it done. The track was really gripped up from the earlier race. It was a little slick at first, but after the first lap it was gripped up nicely. That was just part of the job. We need to come back tomorrow and complete the job.

WHEN YOU LEARNED YOU WON THE POLE, WHAT DID YOU SAY?
“I don’t know what I said.”

YOU SAID, ‘ARE YOU KIDDING ME?’
I don’t even remember what I said, to be honest with you. I was just hoping we could get one of these this year. We’ve been close a couple of times. At a couple of places I felt we had the speed to do it and we didn’t get it done. And, today we had our backs against the wall. You know, we were making the best decisions we could. We were first out. I think it would have been risky for us to save a set of reds like the second group. And we knew we knew we’d be on our back foot there in the Fast Six. But, this car was phenomenal. It’s cool because this is the Verizon P-1 award. I’ve been driving a Hum car many races this year by Verizon and I haven’t been able to get it in this place, so I’m happy to have those guys on board. They do so much for this sport. And it’s a good start for our weekend.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Sonoma–Josef Newgarden
