Ty Dillon Drives Yuengling Chevrolet SS to 18th-place finish at Brewery’s Home Track

Ty Dillon drove Circle Sport Racing’s No. 33 Yuengling America’s Oldest Brewery Chevrolet SS to an 18th-place finish Sunday afternoon at Pocono Raceway in his third NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start of the 2015 season. The NASCAR XFINITY Series regular qualified 29th on Friday evening but quickly proved his red, white and blue-themed Chevrolet SS was a top-20 race car. He broke into the top-20 on lap 63 and eventually made his way inside the top 10 for a portion of the 160-lap race. A two-tire pit stop gave Dillon the track position he needed as he raced all the way up to seventh place. On the ensuing green-flag run, Dillon reported his No. 33 Chevrolet SS was too tight. He came to pit road on lap 122 for four tires and fuel, but the pit stop was just outside of the team’s pit window. So, a splash of Sunoco fuel came on lap 127 as Dillon was scored 27th. For the remaining 33 laps, Dillon raced back into the top-20 running order looking for a finish of 20th or better. In the end, the 23-year-old rookie driver crossed the finish line 18th, a career high for Dillon in the Sprint Cup Series. He will be behind the wheel of the No. 33 Nexium 24HR Chevrolet SS next weekend in the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Start – 29 Finish – 18 Laps Led – 0 Points – N/A

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Our No. 33 Yuengling team worked their tails off this weekend and really learned a lot about this place. We made some progress throughout the weekend and came up with a decent finish. It’s fun racing these Sprint Cup races with Slugger (Labbe, crew chief). I want to thank Yuengling for supporting us this weekend. It was great seeing their group of people today at the race track. We’ll get ready for another Cup race again next weekend in Michigan.”

TELL US THE EMOTIONS AND THE FEELINGS RIGHT NOW. IT HAS BEEN 69 RACES BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY SO DOMINATE SO MANY TIMES THIS YEAR – NOW IN VICTORY LANE:
“Well we finally got it. That is all I can say we finally got it. We have had a good run. We have had a great season. We have had everything it has taken to win races we just hadn’t got it done yet. I felt like we had the best car a few times today. I’m not sure we were. The No. 4 (Kevin Harvick) was really good at times and we were really good. It just takes a lot of things to go your way to pull these things together. Just can’t thank all my guys enough, Barney Visser, everybody at Furniture Row, everybody back in Denver for working so hard. This is a brand new racecar and they have been working really hard lately. Just proud of them and thankful to drive great racecars.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Martin Truex Jr. →

TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU EXPECT FOR THE RACE TODAY:
“Pocono has kind of turned into a track where I like coming to and seem to be always pretty quick whenever we come here. I got my first pole last year and this weekend I feel like we are pretty good. We were second quick in practice yesterday, second quick on the 20-lap average to (Kevin) Harvick. I’m hoping for good things today. I know it always changes in the race. There have been a lot of times where we have been really fast in practice and then kind of aren’t quite as good in the race. Hopefully today is a little different and we can have a good run. Just try and carry on our momentum from last week and get a good finish today.”

Scott Dixon Wins at Texas
Drivers of Chevrolet Aero Kit with Fully Integrated 2.2 Liter V6 Direct Injected Turbocharged Engine Finish 1-2-3-4 and Five of Top-Seven; Victory is Seventh of Season for Bowtie Brand

FT. WORTH (June 6, 2015) – Scott Dixon delivered his second win of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season in commanding style in the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Dixon put his No. 9 Energizer EcoAdvanced Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet in the front of the field and held the lead for a race-high 97 laps on the way to his second win at TMS and the 37th of his career.

The three-time series champion sits third in the standings, 43 points out of the lead.

The win was the seventh of the season by drivers of the Chevrolet Aero Kit with fully integrated 2.2 liter V6 direct injected turbocharged engine.

“Congratulations to Scott Dixon and his Chip Ganassi Racing crew for a strong win tonight at Texas Motor Speedway,” said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Program Manager for Verizon IndyCar Series. “Scott had the right balance of set up, strategy and skill tonight in a race that ran the entire distance with only one yellow for debris. Toronto is next weekend where Scott has been quite successful. Coming off of a win like this will certainly be a positive boost for Scott and his Target team.”

Dixon’s teammate, Tony Kanaan, No. 10 NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, finished second. Helio Castroneves, No. 3 AAA Insurance Team Penske Chevrolet, finished third to make it an all-Chevrolet driver podium. Castroneves and Kanaan sit fourth and ninth in points, respectively. Series points leader Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, finished fourth.

Charlie Kimball, No. 83 Levemir FlexPen Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, finished seventh. Defending series champion Will Power, No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, remains second in the standings after finishing 13th in tonight’s 248-lap/600K race on the 1.455-mile oval.

Munoz, Rahal Lead Honda Qualifying in Texas
• Carlos Munoz, winner of last Saturday’s race in Detroit, will start fourth
• Graham Rahal, fifth in the drivers’ championship, qualifies sixth

Carlos Munoz, winner of last Saturday’s Verizon IndyCar Series race at Belle Isle Park, led the Honda field in qualifying Friday at Texas Motor Speedway for Saturday night’s Firestone 600. Munoz recorded the fourth-fastest speed in his Andretti Autosport Honda during single-car qualifying for this weekend’s first night race of 2015.

Graham Rahal, currently fifth in the drivers’ championship standings after podium finishes in three of the last four road course events and a fifth-place finish at the Indianapolis 500, qualified sixth for his Rahal Letterman Lanigan team. Munoz’s teammate, Marco Andretti, posted the 11th fastest qualifying run while James Jakes rounded out the top 12 for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

Saturday’s 248-lap run, the second oval race of 2015, starts at 8 p.m. EDT with live television coverage on the NBC Sports network.

Carlos Munoz (#26 Andretti Autosport Honda) 4th fastest in qualifying: “I thought the first lap was okay, and at least the top four weren’t all Penske cars! I’m really happy. I think here, qualifying is quite important in order to stay in the front, because passing is so difficult. You have to have a good car for the race, a consistent car. It was good to have my teammates (Ryan Hunter-Reay, Marco Andretti) qualify in front of me. That’s the good thing about qualifying [last], your teammates can give you information on how they did, what they did. I need to give a big thanks to them for their help, and especially my crew. Tomorrow is a long race, so we’ll keep it clean the whole time.”

JUNE 6, 2015

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 ENERGIZER CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, RACE WINNER: “A lot of credit goes to the Team Target engineering group for the option that we went with which was on the high downforce level. Another big thanks needs to go to Team Chevy for giving us so many good options to run with and the power they’ve given us as well. Once we got the balance right and we got some front wing in the car with some tire pressure changes, the car was basically on rails. That allowed us to run up there with TK and really push him along. After that pit stop exchange, we were able to take the lead and the car was just fantastic in traffic. I think that was the key to winning this race. We found out last year that not being able to run well in traffic was a huge disadvantage, so we made sure to correct that for this year. It was just one of those nights where you get towards the end and you just hope that there wasn’t going to be any yellows. I knew we had a good car, we just had to get it dialed in. I can’t thank the crew enough. This Energizer car….I told you…we had a run with this thing where we would constantly win. I am just over the moon with it, over the moon.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Texas–Post Race →
