TOMMY MILNER, CORVETTE RACING NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R – GTLM DRIVER’S CHAMPION: “Woo! That feels really good. It doesn’t have the initial shock of a win, but deep down this is a pretty satisfying end of the season. We had four wins… a couple of bad races, but we had some amazing ones as well. I just don’t know what to say. Most of all, I am just really happy. I feel really fortunate to be a part of this Corvette Racing team and Chevy. Every year, every weekend, every practice session, I always have the best stuff. That is all a driver can ask for. Yea…I’m happy. This is perfect!” Continue reading Chevy Racing–CORVETTE DP IMSA CHAMPIONSHIP QUOTES

Wild ride ends with five-time champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. safely in Reading field
READING, Pa. (Oct. 1) — With rain erasing three of the four scheduled qualifying sessions at this weekend’s 32nd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals, the one pass drivers got down Maple Grove Raceway was literally a make-or-break run. Fortunately for five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., he made it into the elimination field, but it took every bit of his 377 national events worth of experience to get the job done. Erica Enders wanted another chance at Reading track, but settles for mid-pack slot
READING, Pa. (Oct. 1) — In between what has seemed to be a never-ending smattering of rain at Maple Grove Raceway, there were moments of really good drag racing, and reigning world champion Erica Enders is convinced she could have made a big move if she was given another chance. But in the end, she only got one shot in her Elite Motorsports/Mopar Dodge Dart and had to settle for the No. 9 spot on the qualifying grid.

Weather Cancels All but One Qualifying at Reading, Allen Johnson Qualifies in Top Half

READING, Pa. (October 1, 2016) – Only one session of qualifying was completed at Maple Grove Raceway this weekend at the 32nd annual Dodge Nationals but that was all Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing driver Allen Johnson and his team needed to make a solid run and get into the top half for lane choice during tomorrow’s first round of eliminations.

Both Friday qualifying sessions were cancelled due to the persistent mist. On Saturday morning, Johnson was able to warm up his Dodge Dart and actually put it to the track when he clocked in with a 6.597-second pass at 210.64 mph. A second session on Saturday was attempted but due to increasingly colder temperatures, NHRA made the decision to call it a day and set the ladder for Sunday’s more promising weather forecasted day.

“I don’t think we made a very good run on our only run but I think we’ve got enough information that we can correct it for tomorrow,” Johnson said.

Johnson qualified No. 7 and will pick his lane tomorrow morning in the first round against Alan Prusiensky.

“We’ve got a veteran team that’ll set up this Marathon Petroleum Dart.”

First round is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2nd starting with Top Fuel.

CORVETTE DRIVER IN-RACE UPDATES
OCT. 1, 2016

OLIVER GAVIN, NO. 4 MOBIL 1/SiriusXM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R: “So far, so good. We’ve been making steps with this Corvette and we’ve been moving forward. When Tommy (Milner) was in the car, he was gaining places, he was moving up the order, and I was doing the same. We started off second after that last restart because the guys did a great job and got us out ahead of the No. 66 and then I got past the No. 62 going into Turn One on that restart. He got bumped a little bit by a PC car, but then we had pace. Our engineer, Chuck Houghton, made a good call there on the tires. We switched those up and the car was really switched-on and that was fantastic. I could drive it hard and aggressive. We managed to pull away from the Ferrari, and I could pick my points in the traffic.
“But the track is breaking up in Turn Three and that was getting worse and worse during my stint. I know the guys are looking at it. This caution has allowed us to get Marcel (Fässler) in the car. Marcel is back with us which is great. He was our lucky charm in Daytona and Sebring. He is such a great guy to have with us. Huge experience; three Le Mans wins. The guy knows endurance racing inside out. So we’ll just plug him in and see how he goes the next two hours. Then Tommy will get back in, and then I will get back in and we will see how it goes. DOVER IS ONE OF YOUR BEST RACE TRACKS ON THE SCHEDULE. LAST YEAR HERE AT DOVER, YOU ENCOUNTERED A LITTLE BAD LUCK. THIS YEAR YOU ARE IN A REALLY SOLID POSITION TO MAKE IT TO THE NEXT ROUND. TALK ABOUT THOSE TWO ELEMENTS AND HOW YOU WILL APPROACH THIS WEEKEND
“I’m excited to be back to my best race track, without a doubt. I think last year shows that you really can’t count on a race track always being kind to a driver or always working in their favor. It’s part of racing. I’ve learned it through many different lessons over my racing career. Last year, I think, kind of showed everybody once again that you just can’t take a race or a track for granted for anybody. We’re back with high hopes. I love being here. I’m glad to see the weather moving out so that we can get on the race track today. I think it’s going to be a tricky day on the track. The track will be very green, very fast; and then these winds are definitely going to give us a hard time on the race course.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Dover–Jimmie Johnson

YOU HAD AN INCREDIBLE RUN HERE LAST YEAR BUT FELL JUST A LITTLE SHORT OF GETTING TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE CHASE. DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE ANOTHER INCREDIBLE RUN IN YOU AND DO YOU THINK THAT WILL BE ENOUGH TO GET YOU INTO THE NEXT ROUND?
“Last year was a lot of fun, getting to race with the No. 88 and knowing that I had to finish ahead of him in order to advance to the next round. He was ahead on one restart and I’d be ahead on the next, so that was a fun battle. As far as this year, you don’t know until you get on the track. You don’t know the circumstances, how they’re going to play out. I think the Chase hasn’t had the drama that it normally does to this point, so if you’re a guy on the outside looking in trying to advance to the next round you’re hoping that it’s a fairly dramatic race and that something big happens with somebody up front that’s going to shake it up a little. It can happen for sure here.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR—Dover–Jamie McMurray

Reading, PA (September 29, 2016) – Only four races stand between Team Summit Racing and the 2016 NHRA Pro Stock Championship. This weekend the team races the Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Jason Line is still the points leader in Pro Stock with teammate Greg Anderson close behind in second. Besides winning rounds, drivers need to qualify as high as possible to gain bonus points and increase their lead.

Racing conditions are expected to be much different than the past several races. After weeks of heat and humidity, the forecast is calling for much cooler conditions in Pennsylvania. Continue reading TEAM SUMMIT RACING GOING FOR WIN 16 IN READING

Chevrolet Drivers Carry Momentum Into Third Round of the Countdown
Every point is critical at Maple Grove Raceway as playoff reached midpoint

DETROIT (Sept. 28, 2016) – Chevrolet’s success this season in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Pro Stock division has created a logjam of Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship contenders, each of whom carry momentum into the midpoint of the six-race playoff.

Overall, 11 Chevrolet drivers are in contention for championships in Funny Car, Top Fuel and Pro Stock entering this weekend’s Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway near Reading, Pennsylvania.

Chevrolet Pro Stock drivers, who have won 19 of the 20 races, hold the top six spots in the Countdown standings, and seven of the 10. Every point earned is critical.

“I’m going to say the championship is not going to be clinched until we get to (season finale at) Pomona and hopefully I will still be in contention,” said Vincent Nobile, who is fourth in the standings and has advanced to the semifinals or better in five of the past six races in the Mountain View Tire Chevrolet Camaro SS. “We’re all out there fighting and it’s the team that’s the most consistent and able to focus on every little detail that’s going to win this thing.”

Jason Line, who has an NHRA-high eight victories this season in the Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro SS, remained in first place in the standings following the event last weekend in St. Louis.

KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson, who set the Maple Grove Raceway Pro Stock speed record of 214.59 mph last October in the Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro SS, is second in the standings. Bo Butner, who advanced last weekend to his fifth final round of the season in the Butner Auto Sales Chevrolet Camaro SS, moved to third. St. Louis No. 1 qualifier Shane Gray (Valvoline/Nova Services Chevrolet Camaro SS) is fifth, followed by Chris McGaha (Harlow Sammons of Odessa Chevrolet Camaro SS), and Drew Skillman (Ray Skillman Auto Chevrolet Camaro SS).

Chevrolet’s season-long success was punctuated at St. Louis with Alex Laughlin earning his maiden Pro Stock national victory that also was the 250th in the division for the Bowtie Brand.
Chevrolet Motor Division expanded its footprint in NHRA in 1998 by entering the Pro Stock division with the 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 driven by Larry Morgan, Kurt Johnson, and – in a limited schedule – Minnesota Timberwolves forward Tom Hammonds.

Interestingly, Bill Jenkins won the first two events of the inaugural 1970 Pro Stock season in a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, and before the manufacturer’s formal entry into the class in ’98 the last victory for a Camaro came in 1985 when Joe Lepone Jr. ousted Bruce Allen in an all-Camaro final in the season finale at Ponoma, California.

Chevrolet also has recorded 118 Funny Car victories. John Force is the active leader with 15, including three this season. Force, who has driven the PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS to fourth place in the Countdown standings, has seven of his 146 career victories at Maple Grove Raceway.

In 2013, victory at the racetrack gave Force the points lead in the Countdown that he did not relinquish on the way to claiming his unprecedented 16th Funny Car championship.

“Every race in key in the Countdown,” he said. “We won the first one (at zMAX Dragway) but we struggled a little in St Louis. You want to have some momentum for the last three races, for sure. This Chevy hot rod will be in the mix.”

John Force Racing teammate Robert Hight, the No. 1 qualifier this past weekend at Gateway Motorsports Park in the Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS, was the No. 1 qualifier and reset the Maple Grove Raceway speed record of 329.24 mph last October. The 2009 Funny Car champion is seventh in the Countdown.

“Anyone still has a chance to win this Funny Car championship,” said Hight, who extended his streak of at least one No. 1 qualifier spot to 12 years. “We need to have a good race in Reading, but I think we can do that. I am excited to get to the track.”

Courtney Force, driving the Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro SS, is eighth in points in the Countdown.

Her sister, Brittany, has had success at Maple Grove Raceway the past two years in the Top Fuel division with final round and semifinal appearances. The driver of the Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster was the No. 1 qualifier in 2015.

“I look at those races as learning experiences and I want to get those four round wins on Sunday this year,” said Force, who is in fifth place in the Countdown. “(Crew chief) Brian Husen and (tuning consultant) Alan Johnson have given me a great race car and I can’t wait to get to the track.”

Seven racers will drive their Chevrolet COPO Camaros in the Stock Eliminator class, including Dan Fletcher of Churchville, New York, who won the opener at Pomona, California, and David Barton of Robesonia, Pennsylvania, who won three of the four rounds of the School of Automotive Machinists & Technology Factory Stock Showdown.

FOX Sports 1 will telecast three hours of live eliminations and finals at 2 p.m. ET Sunday, along with an hour of qualifying live at 6 p.m. ET Friday. FS1 will telecast taped highlights of qualifying at 2 a.m. ET Sunday.

Chevrolet will welcome fans to its Chevrolet Performance Display during the weekend. It will include a number of Chevrolet’s award-winning production vehicles, examples of Chevrolet engines, and a selection of performance parts and accessories that are available for fans to purchase from their local Chevrolet dealer.

Jeg Coughlin Jr. ready for a ‘good time’ at Dodge NHRA Nationals
READING, Pa. (Sept. 27) — The Dodge NHRA Nationals this weekend would be a good time for Mopar Pro Stock drivers to shine, and five-time class champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. hopes he and his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart can step up.

Maple Grove Raceway would be an apt place for Coughlin to perform well, as he has won there four times in his brilliant career. The 2016 season hasn’t gone as expected for Coughlin and his Elite Motorsports team, but he hopes he can gun for victory No. 5 there this weekend.
