Permatex/Follow A Dream TA/FC team finishes runner-up in divisional race at Lebanon Valley, New York

MARSTONS MILLS, Massachusetts (July 3, 2018)

The Permatex/Follow A Dream Top Alcohol Funny Car team went into a one-month break with momentum and confidence, finishing runner-up in this past weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Racing Drag Racing Series, Northeast Division, at Lebanon Valley Dragway in West Lebanon, New York.

Driver Phil Burkart was the No. 1 qualifier for the event with a strong run of 5.589 seconds at 263.45 mph.

EPPING, N.H. (July 2) — The numbers are adding up nicely for six-time world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. and his Elite Performance Pro Stock teammates at the halfway point of the 24-race NHRA drag racing season. To date, Elite-powered drivers have won half of the events on the schedule, including Coughlin’s own triumphs in Chicago and Bristol. Coughlin and teammates Erica Enders and Vincent Nobile all hold down top-10 rankings, with additional Elite drivers Alex Laughlin and Matt Hartford close behind in 11th and 12th place, respectively.

“We weathered a pretty long storm at Elite but the guys never gave up and they completely turned the tide beginning at this year’s Gainesville race,” Coughlin said. “We’ve absolutely been on a tear ever since. Check the stats and you’ll see there’s been an Elite car in nine straight finals and we’ve all combined to win six races so it’s definitely been a great stretch. WATKINS GLEN, NY – July 2, 2018 – It was an all Ford weekend in Watkins Glen, New York. The Ford Chip Ganassi Racing (FCGR) team of Dirk Müller and Joey Hand won the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Series, Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, while the Ford Mustang GT4 found Victory Lane in the Continental Tire 240.

Hartford King Engine Bearings KoM kicks off SOD Month of the King

ERIE, MI (July 2, 2018) – The King is back, and going big in July, with the Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt presented by ARP Month of the King, including three King Engine Bearings King of Michigan races! The KoM opener was rained out on May 18 and again on June 8, so we travel to Hartford Speedway for the first 2018 KoM race this Friday, July 6.

SOD teams kick off the Month of the King Friday, then return to Hartford on July 13 for the KoM round 2. SOD will race at Crystal Motor Speedway on Saturday, July 14, for the season’s third MAHLE/Clevite Beyond Limits Challenge race on July 14. The month is capped off at Hartford on July 27 for the KoM round 3.

The 2018 KoM Champion will be crowned at the series finale on August 31. The champion will have a guaranteed starting spot in the Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt presented by ARP Mike Olrich Memorial Race at Crystal Motor Speedway on September 1st. The King Engine Bearings King of Michigan will pay a point fund to the top five at the 2018 Sprints On Dirt Awards Banquet at the Battle Creek (MI) Holiday Inn on Saturday, October 27.

Chad Blonde won the first three 2017 KoM races, including a record 5 minute and 25 second, non-stop feature on August 11th; Ryan Ruhl won the 2017 KoM finale. Blonde won the KoM points championship over Steve Irwin (2001 & 2017 SOD champion), Gregg Dalman (2015 SOD champion), and Thomas Schinderle (2017 SOD Series Rookie of the Year).

Pole-winner Menard Overcomes Late Speeding Penalty To Finish 13th At Chicagoland

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Sylvania team came away with a 13th-place finish in Sunday’s Overton’s 400 at Chicagoland Speedway thanks to a strong drive from Menard following a speeding penalty on his last pit stop.

Menard, who started the race from the pole, had run just outside the top 10 for most of the middle portions of the race and was running 13th when the final caution flag flew with 59 of 267 laps left to run.

Austin Dillon and The Dow Intellifresh Camaro ZL1 Team Finishes 37th at Chicagoland Speedway Despite Solid Showing

“All I can say is what a race. We started off Stage One with a deficit when we decided to gamble and late-pit, which put us one lap down. Luckily, the Dow Intellifresh Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was decent on the long run and we were able to get back on the lead lap. Our car was really solid and we were racing in the top-12. Shortly into the third stage, my foot went flat down to the floorboard when I pressed the brakes. We came down pit road, but it was evident we needed to retire to the garage. The entire right-front hub burned up and was on fire. It’s definitely not the ending we were hoping for, but we’re heading to Daytona next week and we love that place so we have confidence leading into next week.”

“We fought hard for 15th place, that’s for sure. We found ourselves down a lap early and battled an extremely tight-handling Okuma Camaro ZL1. We rallied back by getting the car more competitive and using some strategy to race onto the lead lap. We’ve had a run of some pretty bad luck this season, so we’ll take this finish and keep working hard. We’re by no means out of this thing when it comes to the Playoffs.”

(July 1, 2018) – Both Acura Team Penske and Meyer Shank Racing continued their runs of 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship podium finishes today at Watkins Glen International Raceway, as well as claiming both Prototype and GTD victories in the North American Endurance Championship “series-within-a-series” at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.

Despite extremely high trackside temperatures throughout the six-hour endurance contest, Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron combined to finish third overall and in the Prototype class; while Katherine Legge and Alvaro Parente reunited to finish second in GTD, moving Legge to within a single point of the GTD Drivers’ Championship lead. Kyle Larson was Chevrolet’s highest-finishing Camaro ZL1 in Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) race at Chicagoland Speedway ending the day with a second-place finish.
The run marked Larson’s fourth top 10 finish in five races at Chicagoland Speedway and his 10th top 10 of the 2018 MENCS campaign
Larson battled for the lead with eventual race winner Kyle Busch in the waning laps, taking the lead on the final lap, but contact between the two resulted in a spin by Larson who was able to recover and get back to the start/finish line to record his fourth runner-up finish in Cup Series competition in 2018

LEXINGTON, OHIO (July 1, 2018)- Dakota Dickerson of San Diego approached the Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda mid-season event with one goal– to win– and after 11 combined second and third place finishes, the DC Autosport with Cape Motorsports pilot finally put a tally in the win column.

“I feel really great after my first win that I can’t wipe the smile off my face,” said Dickerson. “The DC Autosport guys worked really hard to get us where we are. We went testing earlier this week. Don (DC Autosport team owner) and I have been putting our heads together to figure out how to get more speed out of me and the car. The win gave us the push we needed to takeover first in the championship. We are looking to have the same fast results and add a few more wins on Sunday.”

Menard Rolls To The Pole At Chicagoland

On a sweltering afternoon at Chicagoland Speedway, Paul Menard and his No. 21 Menards/Sylvania Ford Fusion turned up the heat in qualifying and won the pole with a lap at 180.102 miles per hour.

It was Menard’s second career Cup pole, the first coming in July, 2008, at Daytona International Speedway. It was the 119th for the Wood Brothers team and their first since last fall at Phoenix Raceway.

Menard and the Menards/Sylvania team posted mediocre speeds in the two practice sessions on Saturday, posting the 15th fastest speed of 176.102 mph in the first session and the 24th best speed in Happy Hour with a lap at 173.249 mph. Continue reading Menard Rolls To The Pole At Chicagoland →

Matt Tifft Posts a Solid Finish in the Surface Sunscreen Camaro Despite Late-Race Pit Stop

“That was one of the most physically grueling races of my career. It was hot with temperatures above 100 degrees, but my team battled through it. We had a fast No. 2 Surface Sunscreen Camaro yesterday, finishing fifth in both practices. Unfortunately, we tightened up way too much for the race. Nothing we seemed to do helped to loosen it up throughout the race, and I couldn’t run the top line like I wanted to. We still managed to run top-15 for most the race and showed some good speed. We made an unscheduled pit in the closing laps of the race which cost us a top-12 finish, but overall I’m proud of my team and looking forward returning to Daytona next week.”

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 30, 2018) – Lap records and extremely close qualifying times were the order of the day today at Watkins Glen International Raceway, as Acura entries qualified on the second row of both the Prototype and GTD fields in preparation for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.

Acura Team Penske’s Ricky Taylor and Dane Cameron locked out the second row of the starting field in a frantic 15-minute qualifying session that saw no fewer than 14 of the 16 prototypes shatter the existing track record around the 3.4-mile Watkins Glen road course.

Taylor led the way for Acura, qualifying his #7 Acura ARX-05 third overall, less than three-tenths of a second off the record pole time set by Colin Braun. Taylor and co-driver Helio Castroneves have been on a roll of late, finishing second earlier this month at the Detroit Grand Prix and leading a 1-2 Acura sweep at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in May. WATKINS GLEN, New York (June 30, 2018) – Both Tommy Milner and Antonio Garcia made their final laps in Corvette Racing’s Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs count Saturday in qualifying for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. The Corvette Racing teammates filled out the second row in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) category for Sunday’s round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Tommy Milner was third-fastest in GTLM with a lap of 1:42.365 (119.572 mph) in the No. 4 Corvette C7.R, which he shares with Oliver Gavin. Milner’s final pass around the 3.4-mile, 11-turn road course moved him from sixth to third and within 0.417 seconds of the class pole-winning entry. NEXT WEEK WE ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON WE STILL HAVE A PRETTY LONG LIST OF NOTEWORTHY DRIVERS WE HAVEN’T WON. IS THERE THAT BIG OF A SEPARATION BETWEEN THE WINNERS AND YOU GUYS WHO HAVE BEEN CLOSE?
“Some weeks, yes. I mean some weeks you know it’s been a pretty big difference. Other weeks I feel like we have been a lot closer. Unfortunately, I haven’t really found a… at some places I would think that we were a good ways off, might be another track… I will give you an example. Pocono, I thought we had a really good race at Pocono. We didn’t finish very well, but we were pretty competitive with the competition. Typically, when you run well at Pocono you go to Michigan and run well too and we ran really well at Pocono, went to Michigan and didn’t run well. I was kind of surprised by that and you know felt like I kind of had an idea of what we needed and the direction we were going was better for all those places and obviously that wasn’t the case.
