7/24/18, Jim Allen, Sacramento, CA … The exciting King of West-NARC Sprint Car Racing Series will be invading Placerville Speedway this Saturday, July 28th to compete in the Fujitsu Summer Nationals.

This marks the 13th stop on the ultra-competitive 16-race campaign, and the final appearance of the year for the series at the action-packed quarter mile bull ring located at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. Up for grabs will be nearly $20,000 in prize money and contingency awards, including a $3,000 check for the winner of the 30-lap Fujitsu-sponsored headliner.

To date, six drivers have graced the coveted confines of the King of the West-NARC victory lane. Leading the pack is three-time series champion and current point leader of Kyle Hirst of Paradise, CA, who has claimed five wins. Included in that tally is a June 30th victory at Placerville Speedway.

Overall, Hirst is very familiar with Placerville, having scored four career victories at the track in a winged 410 sprint car.

“Placerville is a track where many local open wheel drivers have cut their racing teeth over the years,” acknowledges Hirst. “The racing is always frantic here and just about everything that can happen in an 11-second lap … usually does! With the real-world racing experience gained at this quarter-miler, mastering the larger tracks gets a little easier.”

Hirst continues, “Placerville Speedway offers up a true test of one’s talent because it forces you to move around and run different lines, especially in lap traffic with someone hot on your heels. You have to stay aggressive, but also stay out of trouble at the same time. That’s a tough combo to master.”

Among those looking to make return visits to victory lane this season include Shane Golobic of Elk Grove (three wins), Campbell’s Bud Kaeding, Colby Copeland of Roseville and Justin Sanders of Aromas (one each). Copeland claimed his first career King of the West-NARC victory at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville on July 21st.

Other competitors expected to compete include Penngrove drivers Chase Johnson and Buddy Kofoid; Nathan Rolfe and Sean Watts from Atwater; Fremont’s Dustin Golobic; Jenna Frazier of Sacramento; Hanford’s DJ Netto; Bobby McMahan of Elk Grove; Discovery Bay’s Jarrett Soares; Tanner Thorsen of Minden, NV; Grass Valley’s Jason Statler; and Auburn’s Richard Brace Jr.

Also expected to compete are Australian drivers Matt and Marcus Dumesny.

There is a Fujitsu bonus for the highest two finishing 360 sprint cars. The top finisher will earn an extra $200, and the next best $150.

The sprint car portion of the racing program will feature qualifying, three 10-lap heat races, a six-lap trophy dash, and a 30-lap main event.

Pit gates open at 2:00 pm and front gates open at 3:00 pm. Qualifying gets underway at 5:00 pm and racing begins at 6:00 pm. Also on the racing program are BCRA Midget Lites and Vintage Hardtops.
