CHEVROLET IN THE NTT INDYCAR SERIES Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 2501.015-mile Milwaukee Mile short oval Milwaukee, Wisconsin Saturday Qualifying Report August 28, 2026

MILWAUKEE (August 28, 2026) – Scott McLaughlin, driving the No. 3 Clarience Technologies Team Penske Chevrolet, was the quickest driver on his first of two laps at 165.536mph, more than 1.4 mph quicker than the next-best driver, scoring Team Chevy’s 249th all-time earned pole.
Pato O’Ward, who qualified fourth for the first race, missed out on earning the 250th Chevrolet-powered pole by three-thousandths of a second. After penalties for unapproved engine changes for the top three, O’Ward will start Saturday’s race from the inside of the front row.
David Malukas, piloting the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, qualified 3rd; O’Ward, who qualified 4th; and Josef Newgarden in the No. 2 Snap-on Team Penske Chevrolet made it four of the top five for drivers wearing a Bowtie in qualifying for Saturday’s race.
For Sunday’s race, Newgarden joins O’Ward in the top five.
McGlaughlin’s pole is the 249th earned Chevrolet-powered pole, and the 13th in his career, tying Ryan Briscoe and Greg Ray for 28th on the all-time list. That baker’s dozen poles ties the Kiwi with former Team Penske driver Emerson Fittipaldi for 7th on the all-time list for Team Chevy.
The pole is the 145th earned pole for Team Chevy since the introduction of the 2.2L Twin-Turbo V6 in 2012, giving the Detroit manufacturer a pole percentage of 58.2% in the last 15 seasons.
It’s the 159th earned pole all-time for Team Penske and the 108th since the introduction of the 2.2L Twin-Turbo V6 in 2012.

I’m still a little bit pissed about the second lap, but I think we held on to eighth. Very proud, great for Chevy. I love Milwaukee Mile. I love coming here. Wisconsin fans are so nice to me and now I’m very excited. Just want to put on a show from wherever we are. i think we’re nine, so we’ll just ship it and see where we end up. So, yeah, it’s going to be a beautiful day. It’s not going to rain. It’s just going to keep being nice and we’re going to have a great day.”
David Malukas, No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet qualified 3rd for Race #1 14th for Race #2:“So much understeer and the tires just gave out. So, one and two were not too bad, but three and four, that front just gave out and I already was maxed out on my tools, so I had nothing left. So, it’s unfortunate, but I think as the runs were going, I think the track was just getting a little bit hotter there. I need to look back and see what else we could have done differently. We need more grip. So, it can turn more, right? We need to go back and look at it”.
Pato O’Ward, No. 5 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet qualified 4th for Race #1 and 2nd for Race #2:“I’m pleased with that, man. The Arrow McLaren Chevy is really good. I really, really thought we had a shot at it, and we obviously got close for race one, and we’re currently on pole for race two, so hopefully we can hold that on after these next few cars. I feel good, man. I think we can really make this weekend a good one for us.”
Josef Newgarden, No. 2 Snap-on Team Penske Chevrolet qualified 5th for Race #1 and 3rd for Race #2:“Frustrated because we didn’t have a very good run, but I mean, I’m optimistic always. We got a great team, great car, so, you know, we’ll move to the race with our Snap-on Chevy”
Christian Lundgaard, No. 7 VELO Arrow McLaren Chevrolet qualified 10th for Race #1 and 11th for Race #2:“I was ready for just send it and hope for the best. In many ways, I think we started a lot yesterday. Just one-finding comfort, and getting really comfortable with the rear. it didn’t really matter what we did. We didn’t really solve the rear. We just made the understeer worse, so, I just go out there and deal with it, and I think it went well. I think better than in many ways that I anticipated. So it’s a long race, obviously. Kyle (Kirkwood) had some unfortunate luck yesterday, so we know we need to score points at him and David (Malukas) as well. So, we are in a better position.”
Alexander Rossi, No. 20 ECR Java House Chevrolet qualified 11th for Race #1 16th for Race #2:” We had understeer in three and four. We’re just going so much faster than we were yesterday, or really, than we’ve been here ever, in my time, at least. So, I think it just surprised everyone. We bought them a little bit in three, four, but ultimately, you know, the car’s going crazy in the past day and a half. I felt really good in the long run pace that we had, and, as we know, this race is pretty wild with tire deg, and the undercuts overcuts, and the different strategies that can come into play. So, I’m not too concerned about qualifying. I think the car’s been fantastic, and, I think we’ll be in a decent spot to start, at least race one.”
Christian Rasmussen, No. 21 Splenda Stevia Chevrolet qualified 18th for Race #1 17th for Race #2:” I think it was really good. I think we’ve had great pace in the car all weekend, and most of all, just going out there and saving it for a qualifying session with how fast we go around here. Definitely, you have to put a lot of trust into your guys, but the car was good. I think we were a little bit on the conservative side on the balance, but, I think they did an amazing job getting a car ready for me, and I’m just happy to be out here. I think we showed last year that we can definitely move forward in the races, so, um, yeah, we’ll be looking to do that.”
Rinus VeeKay, No. 76 Juncos Hollinger Chevrolet qualified 19th for Race #1 and 12th for Race #2:“We were dragging across the track-dragging our floor, so with the added grip this morning, the ride heights are going to be lower. We were just basically slamming on the ground. It was, hearts get around because, you know, the car was just getting unloaded over to bums. We did not expect this much grip, but, I think the second lap kind of figured out where the bums were, and I could drive around it, but decent effort, I think, a bit more sketchy than I wanted to be, butt, we got a penalty for race one, but for race two, I think that’s a good starting position.”
Caio Collet, No. 4 Combitrans Amazonia Chevrolet qualified 21st for Race #1 and 21st for Race #2:“Yesterday we had a really tough practice, to be honest. We don’t really understand why. We were so slow. Today, I think we found a little bit better. Obviously, I think we are still… on the low side of things, but hopefully we can make the right adjustments for the race and come back through the field.”
Sting Ray Robb, No. 77 Juncos Hollinger – Goodheart Chevrolet qualified 23rd for Race #1 and 23rd for Race #2:“It’s tough being the first guy out. You don’t know what it’s gonna be like. It’s a fast lap around this place. I wish we could get another go at it, always, but, I don’t think it hurts us too much. Nine spot grid penalty today with the engine change, so I think we’ll be having a good race car. I think our degradation level under the conditions yesterday was pretty good, so I’m excited to get out there for the race. Going to be a long race. I think it’ll be exciting to see what other cars are like out there, and long race, high degradation levels. I think that we’ll just fly through the field.”
Santino Ferrucci, No. 14 Homes For Our Troops Chevrolet qualified 24th for Race #1 and 22nd for Race #2:“The car was fine – it’s just not there for whatever reason. I think it was good yesterday. I was actually pretty confident with the car. Just really couldn’t get into the corners as deep as I’d like, just a little bit of bottoming into three, which isn’t great. No idea actually. It was kind of strange. I’m sure track conditions are part of it. Just maybe missing some downforce somewhere. Not sure. Well, I mean, it’s a racing track anyway, so it’s not like it matters. We’ll get it sorted.”Nolan Siegel, No. 6 Kohler/Future Techs Arrow McLaren Chevrolet qualified 25th for Race #1 and 25th for Race #2:“Obviously my first laps of the weekend, we had an issue yesterday and I’m doing what I can with it today. We’re doing what we can with it as a group. So, not the start we wanted, but certainly not going put a damper on the rest of our day. It’s not a super qualifying, sensitive track. We’ve seen people go from the back to the front. We’ve got two very long races ahead of us. So, just learning what I can here on those two laps of qualifying and first really two laps of the weekend. And we’ll go from there. Two very enjoyable races.”
