BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 22, 2026) – In addition to his talents behind the wheel of the John Force Racing PEAK Chevrolet SS Funny Car, Jack Beckman is a drag racing historian who appreciates the long tradition of great performances at Pacific Raceways and looks to add another chapter to his storied career at the conclusion of the July 24-26 Muckleshoot Casino Resort NHRA Northwest Nationals.
It was at the Kent, Wash., facility in 2007 where Beckman defeated his current boss, team owner John Force, in the final round for just the third of his now 38 NHRA Funny Car victories. Pacific Raceways is also where, in 2019, Force earned the 150th of his 157 NHRA Funny Car wins when he defeated Ron Capps in the final.
Beckman heads into this race weekend coming off a semifinal finish in last Sunday’s event at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway that moved he and PEAK SQUAD up one position, to third, in the point standings with three races remaining in the regular season before the points are reset for the Countdown to the Championship. The 775-mile drive north on Interstate 5 from Sonoma Raceway to Pacific Raceways may be just what’s needed to write a few more pages of success into both Beckman’s and John Force Racing’s history books.

What did it mean to beat John Force in the final round of the 2007 NHRA Northwest Nationals? 2007.
“I remember clear as day. I was in the left lane. It was still a quarter-mile track at that time. I’m just watching him slowly driving away from me but as I’m watching him, I’m seeing the flame pattern out of his left-side headers get really erratic. Then, all of a sudden, he stops accelerating and there was just enough racetrack left for me to drive around him before the finish line. If the track was 1,000 feet like now, I never would have caught him. I couldn’t believe it. It was really stunned disbelief. I had pretty much conceded in my mind that we lost to John Force again and then our win light comes on. My son, Jason, was just a few months old and we sat him on the car with the trophy. Obviously, he doesn’t remember, but it is a wonderful memory for me.”
What’s your assessment of the PEAK SQUAD’s Sonoma Nationals with it still visible in the rearview mirror?
“I think the reason that we’re frustrated is we were clearly the second-best car at Sonoma, which means we should have been in the final next to Jordan and the Cornwell Tools Chevy, but we weren’t. We lost a semifinal round race where our opponent ran a five-second elapsed time. There’s never ‘gimmes’ in nitro racing, and certainly not in Funny Car, but it was a self-inflicted wound for us and we don’t know why. The postmortem didn’t show us anything obvious. Tim Fabrisi (co-crew chief) said if I hadn’t pedaled, they could have done an autopsy on all the clutch disks and maybe seen if one disk had glazed over or started to lose its facing which would have pointed us toward a smoking gun. But because we were still very much in the race, I pedaled it and that would mask any issues with an individual clutch disc. So, we’re frustrated. We underperformed relative to the way our PEAK Chevy had been running there. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that the points leader lost in the first round, we gained 40-odd points on them, we increased our lead in the all-star call out points. I think maybe it just makes us a little bit hungrier for Seattle because it’s like knowing you’re good at something, you keep making a mistake but instead of beating your head against the wall and making more mistakes, you take that deep breath and you say, okay we got this. I’m hoping Seattle is our ‘we got this’ weekend.”
As a historian of the sport, what’s the first thing about Pacific Raceways that sticks out in your mind?
“There are some moments that are unequaled, like Kenny Bernstein’s first 300-mph run at Gainesville Raceway. That run and that race track is forever like. The same goes for John Force’s 150th event win at Pacific Raceways. He’s the only person to have done that, period. As a fellow competitor and also a fan, that was just such a huge moment for drag racing. To see a guy, well past the age that people start collecting Social Security, hop out of that car, hop over the fence, run up to the grandstands, and let the fans be part of his celebration. Ron Capps is the second all-time on the Funny Car wins list and has barely half that total. That’s how amazing Force has been.
“And for me living in Southern California, racing in Seattle means getting to stay in the same time zone. It’s one of the few places where I can win on Sunday and be back to work servicing elevators on Monday so that is the plan for this weekend. We had an odd weekend in Sonoma where we were excellent but we didn’t execute as well as we should have. I’m excited to get to Seattle.”
