| Lakeville, CONNECTICUT – June 1, 2022 – “Great weekend, I loved it,” exclaimed Franklin Road Team Principal and TA Class Driver Ken Thwaits from the award podium as the Tennessee pilot scored his fourth podium finish of the season. Ken was understandably delighted with P3 driving the Franklin Road Chevrolet Camaro TA1. It was a perfect warm spring afternoon at Lime Rock Park that produced a clean fast race for Round 6 of the 2022 Trans Am presented by Pirelli TA Class Championship. Ken was in typically ebullient mood as he stepped up to collect his Master’s Award, “Hey, I’m the first old guy across the line. That’s awesome. I still got it, baby!” Ken went on to describe his weekend, “I spun the car on the pace lap. Everything you could do wrong, I did it.” But behind Ken’s jovial repartee there is a very talented driver who, we should remember, is still in his first full season in the 850BHP TA Class. “I was in a hurry and when I realized I was going to catch everyone on the first lap, I decided to settle down.” The Franklin Road Apparel team have made huge strides this season, and for the first time in his career in the TA Class, Ken was on the front row of the grid, albeit helped by Tomy Drissi rendering his own car undriveable following a crash. “I’d like to thank my crew so much,” said Ken. “We had a great ECR engine in the car. We hadn’t been here for a year, and we put it third on the grid, but I wish Tomy was out here. Thank you all for coming out. I love this track. There are so many great fans.” Warm weather made for a dry and sticky track, meaning times were fast and Ken registered a best lap in the race of 52.303 to go with his 50.678 in qualifying and that qualifying time looks to have proved all important in the Drivers’ Championship as provisionally Ken has leapfrogged former TA Champion Amy Ruman and is now tied at 135 points with Tomy Drissi, currently in second place. So, all in all, it was a very satisfactory weekend both for Ken and for the Franklin Road team, with podium finishes in both the TA and TA2 races.
