Rachel Meyer Enters Vegas Nationals, Hopes to Clinch 2021 Championship

After leading the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series national standings all year long, Rachel Meyer hasn’t sealed the deal yet. Rachel has collected over 733 points this year, winning the Gatornationals, Charlotte NGK NTK 4-Wides, and Houston Spring Nationals to start the year off, followed by winning the Topeka Nationals at her home track. But championship contender Jackie Fricke is hot on Rachel’s tail after Fricke won the U.S. Nationals and Dallas FallNationals.

“I’m really excited to head to Vegas this weekend,” said Rachel. “I’ve never been to this track before so it’s always exciting to go to a new track, but it’s even more exciting because the championship is on the line. We have to stop Jackie from winning the event, and if we, or any other competitor, can stop her then the Randy Meyer Racing Team and NGK Spark Plugs will win their third consecutive World Championship!”

“2021 was my first full season as a professional driver in the NHRA, and if I place second in the national standings after the race is over, I’ll still have a big smile on my face because it was a great season for us. Also, it’s pretty neat to see that a female has been leading points all year long and a female will win the championship for the third time in a row.”

If Jackie were to win this weekend’s Vegas Nationals race, she would pass Rachel by 1 point to become the 2021 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion. Therefore, Rachel has decided to enter the event although she will not be able to claim any more points per the NHRA rules. If a driver has competed in over 10 National events, they cannot collect points and only their best 7 count towards the championship. In addition to their best 3 out of their first 5 Regional races.
