The Meyer Sisters Set to Make History at the JEGS AllStars and NHRA Route 66 Nationals
Competing together as the first duo of sisters to race in the prestigious JEGS AllStars, Megan and Rachel Meyer are prepared to follow in their dad’s footsteps and win the event. The Randy Meyer Racing Team will be representing the Central Region of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series where Megan is the 2017-2018 Champion, and Randy is a 7-time Champion since 2004.
Megan enters the AllStars with points from three event wins and one runner-up, while Rachel accumulated one win and two runner-up finishes. Rachel will be debuting her new Top Alcohol Dragster built by Chase Copeland and sponsored by Menards and Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels, and although the team’s plan to go testing got rained out, they’re confident they will have a competitive race car.
“My first qualifying pass will be the first time the new car has been on a track, and I am hoping the car goes A to B each pass without too many struggles,” said Rachel. “With a new car it is hard to determine how it will react, but if we can get a few solid passes on it I’m sure my dad and the team can get a good tune up for the car. We are using the same motor and clutch combination as our other cars, so there shouldn’t be much of a learning curve to handle it.”
This will be Rachel’s first time competing at the JEGS AllStars and the NHRA Route 66 Nationals. Rachel’s first NHRA National event appearance came in 2017 at the Menards Heartland Nationals in Topeka, Kansas where she earned a runner-up finish. Since then, she has raced a limited schedule in the NHRA while also bracket racing a Super Comp dragster, and now also owns a S10 bracket truck.
“I’m just looking forward to having fun this weekend. It would be awesome if me, Megan, and the rest of the Central Region could bring home to regional title, as well as win the race (me). Growing up my dad was a JEGS AllStars qualifier for a handful of years and it was always an exciting time. I love that you get to race two races in one weekend, as well as compete against the best of the best. My favorite memory has to be helping my dad win the AllStars back in 2014. We have come close a few times, but we finally sealed the deal in 2014 and it is still one of my favorite wins with my dad.”
Before heading to Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL the team returned to the Joliet Menards store for a display of the new race car and hand out samples of the savory Dot’s Pretzels. Qualifying for the Top Alcohol Dragster class will begin at noon on Friday, followed by a second session Friday night. The JEGS AllStars first round of eliminations will begin Saturday at noon and conclude by 5 pm. The opening round for the NHRA Route 66 Nationals begins Sunday at noon, and they will have four rounds of eliminations to crown the winner by the end of the day.
