Giovanni Scelzi Maneuvers to Top 10 During World of Outlaws Race at Eldora

Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (May 14, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi earned a top-10 finish last Friday at Eldora Speedway, marking his best-ever result during a World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series race at the half-mile oval.

Scelzi guided the Bernie Steubgen owned sprint car to the seventh quickest qualifying time in his group as the 49 drivers were split into two groups. Scelzi then finished where he started – third – in a heat race to lock into the 14th starting position in the A Main.

“We were pretty good,” he said. “It was a difficult format, but we made the feature through the heat race.

“We worked the bottom and got going early in the feature. I got to eighth or ninth about 15 laps in and then just rode. The lanes closed up on the bottom as guys were racing side by side in front of me.”

Scelzi’s ninth-place finish was his ninth top 10 of the season.

The momentum continued on Saturday as Scelzi qualified fourth quickest in his group and he was leading a heat race midway through when rain invaded the area. The remainder of the program rained out.

Scelzi will continue to race with the Outlaws this Wednesday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., during the Gettysburg Clash presented by Drydene and Friday and Saturday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., during the Morgan Cup. Wednesday will mark his debut at Lincoln Speedway. Scelzi became the youngest winner in World of Outlaws history last September by winning at Williams Grove Speedway.

“I think it’ll be a good show all week,” he said. “All the good cars will be there, the Outlaws and the PA Posse. In a way the win helps to give confidence, but you can have a good showing one time and be in the B Main the next time. It’s a different car, motor, wings, etc., so we’ll see how it shakes out.”
