Giovanni Scelzi Maneuvers to Top-10 Result During KWS-NARC Season Opener

Inside Line Promotions – BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 9, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi produced his fifth top-10 finish of the year during his debut in his family owned sprint car last Saturday at Kern County Raceway Park.

Scelzi maneuvered to a sixth-place outing at the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series season opener. It marked the third different team he has captured a top-10 finish with in a dozen starts this year.

“When I go back to the Midwest next week hopefully we’ll be comfortable and can consistently run up front in Bernie Stuebgen’s car as well,” he said.

Last Saturday night began with Scelzi qualifying 12th quickest. That put him on the pole of a heat race, which he won to lock into the 12 th starting position for the main event. Scelzi made a couple of late passes to secure the sixth-place run.

“I was free on entry and tight on exit,” he said. “After the race we dynoed the left rear shock and it wasn’t right. I think if we started up front I could have hustled to a podium because 30 laps goes by quick when you’re hustling as hard as you can. We built a brand new car and that was the first night on it. You can’t expect much going out there like it. We’ve seen it on the track and talked about what was wrong with it so hopefully it will be better this week.”

Scelzi will return to action in his family owned sprint car this Friday and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the Asparagus Cup. He has earned a top-five finish at the track during each of the last two years.
