Dominic Scelzi Victorious During KWS-NARC Season Opener at Kern County Raceway Park

Inside Line Promotions – BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 8, 2019) – Saturday provided a sweet moment for Dominic Scelzi, who fulfilled a dream by winning during only his third career start driving a Roth Motorsports sprint car.

“I was extremely happy, especially to win our first time out in a 410 this season,” he said. “We got a few laps under our belt together. They knew what I needed to feel and gave it to me. It was pretty potent.”

Scelzi and the team kicked off the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series season opener at Kern County Raceway Park by qualifying fifth quickest out of the 23 drivers despite going out late.

“It was an extremely efficient night,” he said. “In hot laps the track was really slick and we were the last group out, but we were at the top of the board. That set the tone. We had good speed and in qualifying with going out last I knew it’d be pretty tough. To go fifth quick and to beat some really good cars that went out early was huge.”

Scelzi finished where he started – third – in a heat race, which earned enough points to lock him into the dash.

“The heat was pretty locked down and we did what we had to to get in the dash,” he said. “The dash was a full inversion so I started on the outside of the front row and won. Then I chose the outside line to start the main event and we were able to lead all 30 laps.

“I had a lapped car move way up and almost get into me in turn three. Then I tried to get around a lapped car and got pushed up a little in turns one and two. Shane (Golobic) got under me off turn two, but in reality we went unchallenged. It was just a smooth night that you dream about.”

The win was Scelzi’s fourth career with the series.
