Dominic Scelzi Records First Podium Finish of the Season
Inside Line Promotions – BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 10, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi scored his best result of the season last Sunday at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park.
Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed team qualified third quickest to begin the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event.
“We were really good,” he said. “We started off third quick, which I was happy with. Then we went forward in the heat race, which is what we needed to do to make the dash.”
Scelzi, who was making his debut at the track, advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race. That earned enough points to lock into the dash, in which he finished fourth to start the A Main on the outside of the second row.
“They reworked the track before the main event,” he said. “It was really fast, hooked up and rough around the bottom. I got to third pretty quick. Then I passed for second. I got to the leader’s rear bumper. I tried to make a move one lane above him. That didn’t work and I fell to third. I passed back for second, but a yellow came out so we were put back to third.”
Scelzi’s eventful main event ended with a third-place result, which marked his first podium finish of the season.
“I was really happy with it,” he said. “I definitely felt like we had a car to win. The opportunity just didn’t present itself.”
Scelzi is scheduled to compete this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., with the Taco Bravo Sprints and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., for the 3rd annual Jimmy Sills Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.
