CAMARO ZL1 LEADS THE FINAL PRACTICE SESSION FOR THE DAYTONA 500
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 17, 2018) – The final practice session for the Daytona 500 is complete. Bubba Wallace piloting the No. 43 Click N’ Close Camaro ZL1 put up the top speed of 196.954 mph. Wallace led a contingent of Camaro ZL1 racecars on the speed chart with Chevy taking five of the top six spots. The Camaro ZL1 in its debut race has captured the pole for the Daytona 500 on the strength of Alex Bowman’s run last Sunday and won the second Can-Am Duel qualifying race as Chase Elliott captured the checkered flag with his No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Camaro ZL1. Speedweeks conclude with the 60th running of the Daytona 500, the season-opening race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, on Sunday, February 18th at 3:00 p.m. with live coverage on FOX, MRN and Sirius XM NASCAR radio.
BUBBA WALLACE, NO. 43 CLICK N’ CLOSE CAMARO ZL1:
HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE DOES IT GIVE YOU TO SEE YOUR NUMBER ATOP THE BOARD FOR THE FINAL PRACTICE SESSION BEFORE THE DAYTONA 500?
“We all know that means absolutely nothing, but it feels good. I didn’t know we were top of the board there. We were stuck in the back of the pack for a little bit there. Started making moves late and the pack split up and we started doing pit road runs and the next thing you know we are on top of the board. I’m like – cool! I even missed pit road opening looking at the pylon. That gives us a lot of confidence especially going into this week. A lot of stories, a lot of headlines being talked about. To win something is good.”
FIVE OF THE TOP SIX WERE CAMARO ZL1 RACECARS. HOW STOUT IS THAT CAR?
“Going all the way back to Sunday when (Alex) Bowman put it on the pole for Chevy, that was awesome. I’m greedy, I wasn’t paying attention to anybody else, so I didn’t know that we were that stat, but it’s good. I think Chevy is showing a lot of speed so far. Fingers crossed that we can just keep the momentum going throughout the season.”
