NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series
Gateway Motorsports Park, Madison, Ill. (Oct. 20-22)
Mike Coughlin will be racing his JEGS.com Top Dragster in this weekend’s All-American Hot Rod Showdown, the North Central Division season finale in St. Louis. Mike will be joined by his niece, third-generation racer Paige Coughlin, who will be making her fourth career start in Super Comp behind the wheel of her JEGS.com dragster.
Mike will be racing the same Top Dragster he drove to a win earlier this season in his 2017 debut at the Circle K Winternationals in Pomona. In that event, Mike ran as quick as 6.05 seconds and defeated Andy Spiegel in the final round.
Mike is currently ranked third nationally and in the North Central Division Top Dragster class and remains in contention for both championships. He is eligible to earn points at two more events
this season.
In addition to his national event win in Pomona, Mike also won the North Central Division Lucas Oil Series event in Indianapolis.
A few weeks ago at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park, Mike was a runner-up in the Top Dragster class to Danny Nelson.
Mike’s dragster is equipped with a ProCharger centrifugal supercharger and is capable of running in the five-second zone at more than 230 mph. Mike’s crew consists of Greg Cody and Tony Collier.
Last year, Mike returned to the Top Dragster class after a successful run in Top Sportsman that included a pair of Division 3 championships.
During his career, Mike has won 12 divisional events in Super Comp, Top Sportsman, and Top Dragster. His first win came at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky., in 1989.
