Allen Johnson Looking to Make Up Ground Approaching 500th Career Pro Stock Race at Dodge NHRA Nationals
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (September 20, 2017) – Legacy is one word that comes to mind when you think of Allen Johnson’s monumental Pro Stock racing career. This weekend’s 33rd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway marks Johnson’s 500th race in the Pro Stock category – the most of any current driver in the class.
Johnson’s first start in Pro Stock was Phoenix in 1996 and 22 years later, he admits he never envisioned celebrating such a milestone.
“In no way did I think we would’ve raced this long but it’s been a great ride,” Johnson beamed. “It’s been a lot of fun doing this with my family and it’s been well worth it.”
Getting his first Pro Stock win in Richmond in 1999, Johnson had collected 26 other victories and a Pro Stock World Championship in 2012.
In his final Countdown to the Championship, Johnson heads into the Dodge NHRA Nationals No. 9 in the point standings in the Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart.
“We really do have a good car right now and we just need to get some breaks,” Johnson said. “We’ll keep digging and I hope we can make up some ground in Reading. We may have to go on the offense a little bit and that’s what we gotta concentrate on this weekend.”
Qualifying at the 33rd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals begins on Friday, September 22nd at 1:45 and 4:15 p.m. Qualifying continues Saturday, September 23rd at 12:45 and 3:15 p.m. Eliminations begin on Sunday, September 24th at 12:00 p.m. starting with Top Fuel.
