Scelzi Garners Second Straight Top 10 With World of Outlaws During Skagit Debut

Inside Line Promotions – ALGER, Wash. (Sept. 7, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi had a successful debut at Skagit Speedway last weekend.

Scelzi and his Roth Motorsports backed, family owned team invaded the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the high-banked oval beginning on Friday.

“The first night I went out a little too early for qualifying,” he said. “The track got better throughout qualifying. We were able to go from sixth to third in the heat race, which lined us up ninth in the main event.”

Scelzi qualified 18th quickest before he picked up a trio of positions in the heat race to miss locking into the dash by only one spot. That started him on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

“I was running eighth and got by Daryn Pittman around the halfway mark for seventh place,” he said. “On a restart I went high to go around a hole and fell back to 10th. I was pretty much everywhere. I was running the top and moved down to the bottom. The holes were so bad through the middle. You couldn’t run the bottom low enough or the top high enough.”

Scelzi ended with a ninth-place finish, which was his second straight top 10 with the series. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/3xlQo-Lgy0c.

“I was extremely happy,” he said. “It was really nice to get a top 10 with those guys. It boosted my confidence for the second night as well.”

Saturday’s action began with Scelzi timing in 15th quickest during qualifying. He then placed fifth in a heat race to start the main event 15 th.

“The track was completely different,” he said. “It was extremely slick and you had to be around the top. We wanted to try something with the setup. The only way we would pass someone is if we slid them or made it work on the bottom or middle so we threw something at the setup.

“On the first or second lap Donny (Schatz) got by me and so did (Paul) McMahan. I worked my way back up to 15th running the middle and bottom. I was able to get around a couple more guys. It seemed like there wasn’t much passing going on. To come away with a 13th-place finish was great.”

Scelzi capped the night by finishing 13th. Here is a link to watch the feature: https://youtu.be/PS-MdBuOph0.

Monday’s race at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash., rained out.

Scelzi will return to action on Wednesday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., before races on Friday and Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., for the Gold Cup Race of Champions with the World of Outlaws.
