Anderson’s Summit Racing Camaro tuned into Las Vegas raceday conditions

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Oct. 31, 2015 – Greg Anderson and his red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro are a fine pair, and the KB Racing team has every reason to believe that Sunday at the 15th annual NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be a successful venture. After two rounds of qualifying at the second-to-last stop on the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour, Anderson is No. 2 in the line-up and ready for a first-round match with Matt Hartford.

Anderson launched into qualifying with a 6.599-second pass at 209.01 mph that was third-quickest of the round and good for a bonus point. He improved to a 6.596 at 209.07 in the later session for two more bonus marks and a provisional hold on the No. 3 position.

Saturday, Team Summit was ready to kick it up a notch, and in doing so made a move up to second with Anderson’s red Summit Racing Chevy.

“We went out there this morning and got after it a little bit, and it definitely picked up and ran better,” said Anderson, who clocked a 6.584, 209.52 that was second-quickest of the round and came with another two bonus marks. He came back with a 6.603, 209.56 in the final qualifying session to maintain the No. 2 spot. Anderson is currently No. 2 in the Pro Stock points with two racedays left before the championship is officially awarded.

“We decided that last session to see how far we could go with it, and we went a little over the top. We spun the tire a little too hard, but now we know where that line is,” said Anderson. “For tomorrow, we will get a little closer to that set-up we had in the third qualifying session, and we’ll make some other minor changes. No. 2 for the weekend so far means that we’ll go out there tomorrow and play it close to the vest. We’ll run as fast as we did and hopefully, that is enough.

“Sometimes you get overly anxious, and you do things you shouldn’t do. We did that tonight, but like I said, we know where the limit is. We won’t do that tomorrow. We know what we’re capable of, so we should have a great chance to win the race. It will be a little bit warmer tomorrow, and so far this year, the red car has held up well under those conditions. Hopefully, it plays into our hands and we can close the gap between us and the points-leader a little more. That’s the game plan.”
