Anderson is out of the gate strong on day one at NHRA Las Vegas Nationals

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Oct. 30, 2015 – The first day of qualifying at the 15th annual NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway set the stage for excellent racing, and Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing Pro Stock team were eager to send their proven Chevrolet Camaros down the quarter-mile dragstrip to reach their full potential. The racetrack was even better than anticipated, and that gave the team a great starting point and room to improve when qualifying continues on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Anderson’s initial pass down the great racing surface in his red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro was made in 6.599-seconds at 209.01 mph and set him in the No. 3 position with a bonus qualifying point earned. In the later round and with even better conditions, Anderson recorded an improved 6.596 at 209.07 for two more bonus marks as the second-quickest car of the session. He remained No. 3 heading into the second day of the event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

“The racetrack is great out there,” said Anderson, No. 2 in the Pro Stock points with just two races remaining before the 2015 NHRA Pro Stock Mello Yello Drag Racing Series championship is decided. “The track is wonderful, but we are underestimating it. We couldn’t get it going in low gear and stalled the tire. We were shocked that the starting line was so good – and the NHRA Safety Safari did a great job preparing this racetrack for us. We have to make some changes in order to get my Summit Racing Chevy to leave the starting line better.

“There is definitely room to improve. Today was just an average day, I guess. We made two so-so runs that could have been great. The racetrack is definitely there, we just aren’t using it. We’ll have to get after the racetrack tomorrow. It’s really, really good.”
