Roush Yates Engines Propel Joey Logano to Sweep of Watkins Glen International

Mooresville, NC. August 10, 2015 – Joey Logano and Team Penske powered by FORD Performance and Roush Yates Engines swept the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series races at Watkins Glen International. The wins were Logano’s first on a road course and 100th Xfinity Series win for Roush Yates Engines.

“I’m just trying to catch my breath,” said Logano after his Sprint Cup win, “I was really excited after that one. It’s pretty cool to get a road course win. It means too much to me and sweeping the weekend, I’ve never swept a weekend before so this is a really, really special weekend.”

Logano qualified his No. 22 Pennzoil/Shell FORD Fusion 16th. He would work his way into the Top 10 by the halfway point of the race. By lap 56, he was up to fourth and charging to the front. A caution with pit stops on lap 60 would put Logano deep in the field. By lap 80, Logano was already up to the third position. By lap 89, Logano was second and made his move on the final corner, passing the leader and motoring to the win.

It was a historical weekend for Roush Yates Engines and Logano at Watkins Glen as he becomes the first driver ever to sweep both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series races at Watkins Glen International in the same weekend. Logano captured Roush Yates Engines 100th Sprint Cup Series win at Daytona in February along with winning their 100th Xfinity Series race at Watkins Glen this past weekend.

“I’m proud of the men and women at Roush Yates that are committed to building world class engines,” said Doug Yates, CEO & President of Roush Yates Engines, “To have swept Watkins Glen this weekend is amazing and to be able to say we have 100 wins in Sprint Cup and Xfinity is an incredible achievement.”

Logano only led one lap, the last lap as he made a pass in turn 11 for the win. It’s his first ever last corner pass for a win in Sprint Cup. The win is his 2nd Sprint Cup victory of 2015 and 10th of his career. The win is also Roger Penske’s first Sprint Cup win at The Glen.

This marks the first NASCAR Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series sweep for FORD since the Daytona when Ryan Reed won Xfinity and Logano won Sprint Cup. The win is the FORD Fusion’s 67th Sprint Cup win since 2006 giving FORD 635 all-time wins at NASCAR’s highest level.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series travels to Michigan International Speedway while the Xfinity Series will be in competition at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend.
