Giovanni Scelzi Posts Podium Finishes at Plaza Park and Delta

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2015) – Giovanni Scelzi and his team took advantage of a new opportunity last weekend during two micro sprint events.

Scelzi scored a pair of podium finishes during his debut using KW Suspensions shocks.

“We were trying some new shocks thanks to Brent Ventura and Roth Motorsports,” he said. “It’s a night-and-day difference. They are by far the best shocks I’ve raced on. It’s like a whole new race car. We can definitely win some races with these shocks.”

Scelzi opened the weekend on Friday at Plaza Park Raceway in Visalia, Calif., where he qualified ninth quickest before winning his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That lined Scelzi up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“The first night we missed a little with our shock package,” he said. “I was just too tight. The shocks have so much drive. The car got progressively tighter. If I was going to pass I would have had to wreck someone and there’s no reason to do that.”

Scelzi maintained a top five throughout the feature before ending with a second-place result.

He carried that momentum into Saturday’s event at Delta Speedway, where Scelzi timed in seventh quickest during qualifying. He then claimed a heat race from the pole to garner the fifth starting position for the feature.

“We had the car to win and I made a driver error,” he said. “We were running around in third for a while. With about 15 laps to go we passed for second. Then there was a red with five laps to go. I jumped the cushion going into turn one on the restart. We had a yellow and I did the same thing again. That was disappointing to make the same mistake twice. We definitely had the car to win.”

Scelzi posted a third-place result, which marked his ninth top five of the season.

“We show speed everywhere we go,” he said. “It’s just making the right decisions. Now we have a great handle on our shock package. We should be able to rack up quite a few wins.”
