TEAM CHEVY POST QUALIFYING RECAP
AUGUST 1, 2015
SONOMA, Calif. (August 1, 2015) – After setting the NHRA Pro Stock track record of 6.499-seconds/212.36-mph in the second round of qualifying at the Sonoma Nationals, Chris McGaha, Harlow Sammons of Odessa Pro Stock Camaro SS, headed into the qualifying final as the No. 1 qualifier after three rounds. He bested Jason Line in the final qualifying round with a run of 6.527-seconds/212.l06-mph and for the sixth time in his career, and the fourth time this season McGaha qualified No. 1 in NHRA Pro Stock.
“Today’s conditions were more like race day, and that’s what you want,” said McGaha. “We have been running late both days of qualifying lately, and that’s kind of throwaway information. But today was a lot better to prepare us for tomorrow. The racetrack is a little greasy right now, and it will get worse as time goes on with the sun on it and everyone racing on it. Right now, it’s like race day. This was good to help us get ready for Sunday, and we’re still waiting for that first win. We have six of these green low qualifier hats and four now from this year, but we’re still waiting for those yellow hats they give you when you win. That’s what we really want.”
Line’s run of 6.541-seconds/211.76-mph was enough to keep the driver of the Summit Racing Camaro SS second in the order heading into eliminations on Sunday. Points leader Greg Anderson powered his Summit Racing Camaro SS to third on the Pro Stock eliminations ladder.
John Force, Peak Antifreeze John Force Racing Camaro SS Funny Car, lead the Chevrolet contingent in Funny Car securing the No. 3 qualifier sport for Sunday’s eliminations at Sonoma Raceway with a best run of 3.970-seconds/322.96-mph.
Robert Hight put the Auto Club of Southern California John Force Racing Camaro SS Funny Car in the final eliminations Funny Car ladder as the No. 5 qualifier. Courtney Force, Traxxas Radio Control Cars John Force Racing Camaro SS Funny Car, put up her best numbers of the weekend, 4.059-seconds/315.42-mph in round four, but had to settle for 12th in the final eliminations order.
Brittany Force, Monster Energy/John Force Racing/Chevrolet Top Fuel Dragster, posted a pass of 3.872-seconds/320.66-mph to secure the No. 12 qualifier spot in NHRA Top Fuel.
