Line Nabs Provisional Pole on First Day of Summit Racing Southern Nationals

COMMERCE, Ga., May 15, 2015 – The 35th annual Summit Racing NHRA Southern Nationals are off to a very good start for NHRA Pro Stock driver Jason Line. Powering the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, Line jumped right into the No. 1 spot on the first day of his sponsor’s event with a powerful pass that significantly outpaced the field.

In the first round of qualifying at Atlanta Dragway, Line clocked a monster 6.546-second pass at 211.23 mph that was two-hundredths of a second quicker than his closest competitor, who just happened to be Summit Racing teammate Greg Anderson, who was 6.561, 211.69 at the finish line stripe.

The competition increased in the second session as teams found the tune-up for the racetrack that historically holds much success for the Summit Racing team, and although the field tightened some, Line stayed No. 1. Notably, the Mooresville, N.C.-based driver has been the low qualifier in each of the most recent two races, including the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas.

“It’s always a big deal to be the No. 1 qualifier, whether it’s your sponsor’s race or not,” said Line. “We want to be No. 1 qualifier at every race. My car was really good today, and we had a little hiccup in the second round, but there is definitely more left. Hopefully, we can hold onto this spot for Sunday.”

In the second session, Line clocked another strong pass, a 6.549 at 211.06 that was second-quickest of the round. Thus far in qualifying, KB Racing-powered Line has accumulated five bonus qualifying points to strengthen his quest to return to the No. 1 spot in the standings. He came to the event just 15 marks out of the top spot.

This year, Line has been exceptional in qualifying. Aside from the two consecutive poles, Line has three times started No. 2. Only once this year has he been out of the top two spots heading into raceday.

“We still have a lot to learn this weekend, but we’re off to a decent start,” said Line. “I like coming to Atlanta Dragway. This is a great place to race, and it’s close to home. So far this weekend, this racetrack is absolutely my favorite.”
