Summit Racing–Anderson Picking Up Points, No. 3 on Friday in Houston

Anderson Picking Up Points, No. 3 on Friday in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas, April 24, 2015 – Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing team are so far unfazed by the hot and sticky conditions in Houston. At the end of the first day of qualifying for the 28th annual NHRA SpringNationals, Anderson was situated nicely in the No. 3 position, and with the weather possibly warming a bit for Saturday’s continued action at Royal Purple Raceway, the driver of the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro could likely maintain his nice, high perch.

In the first session of qualifying, Anderson clocked a 6.576-second pass at 211.06 mph. For the second session, he and Team Summit worked to refine their program and came back with a 6.559, 211.23. Anderson claimed a bonus qualifying point for his last pass of the day as it was third-quickest of the round.

“It wasn’t a bad day today, and we know we need to nitpick a little bit,” said Anderson. “These are completely different weather conditions than we’ve run in all year. It’s extremely humid compared to what we’ve seen so far, and it’s our first crack with the new Sunoco Racing Fuel in these conditions, and the first crack at it with the new Goodyear Tires, so it’s a learning curve.

“We had a decent day but we definitely think that we can run better. We’re looking forward to two runs tomorrow to try to tune on the racecar. Shane Gray [provisional No. 1 qualifier] kind of showed us the way home tonight, and what we should be able to run out there. We’ll take that, learn from it, and make a few changes for tomorrow and try to run better. It was an above average day, not a great day, but the good news is that we’re not a long way off. We don’t have to make wholesale changes, we can just make small changes and hope to pick up small amounts and get back to the top. It was a good day, really, because we have a very competitive car and if we can make it better yet, we’ll have a great chance of winning this race.”
