Scelzi Runs 11th with World of Outlaws, Caps Weekend with Top 10 at Placerville

Inside Line Promotions – PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 20, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi is coming off a strong weekend.

Scelzi kicked off last weekend on Friday by wrapping up the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series spring swing through the West Coast in his Roth Motorsports backed, family owned No. 41.

He qualified 18th quickest, which lined him up on the outside of the third row of a heat race at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif. Scelzi then maneuvered from sixth to a fourth-place result to lock himself into the main event.

“We had a strong heat race and we were every bit as fast as Joey Saldana (who finished third),” he said. “That was a good note for our team.”

After starting on the inside of the ninth row for the main event, Scelzi methodically worked his way toward the top 10.

“I’d say we were a top-10 car,” he said. “We just got stuck behind a guy and got racing with Jason Meyers pretty hard. By the time I got by him ninth and 10th place got away from us.”

Scelzi ended with an 11th-place result.

“I was thrilled with an 11th-place run and I’m glad I was able to end the swing with that finish,” he said. “All in all I’m happy with it. We changed some stuff around and it worked well.”

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Placerville Speedway, where Scelzi qualified 12th quickest in the Dan Monhoff owned sprint car. That lined him up on the pole of a heat race.

“The car on the outside front row pinched me on the start and they threw the yellow and said I jumped the start,” he said. “For some reason we got sent back.”

Scelzi then scored a fourth-place result in the heat race to lock himself into the main event, which he started 12th.

“The top was really slick and the bottom was really hooked up,” he said. “It was pretty much single file around the bottom. I got most of my positions in the first five laps.”

Scelzi advanced from 12th to place eighth, marking his seventh top-10 finish of the season.

“I can’t thank Dan enough for the opportunity and I’m happy with the way we’re running,” he said. “We’ve been very consistent this season.”

Scelzi is set to compete this Friday at Keller Auto Speedway and Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., with the Civil War Sprint Car Series.
