Anderson to Debut New Red Summit Racing Camaro at NHRA Gatornationals

Mooresville, N.C., March 11, 2015 – Greg Anderson has much to look forward this weekend at the 46th annual Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals. The four-time NHRA Pro Stock world champion will be returning to a racetrack that holds fond memories, and he will do so behind the wheel of a new hot rod. In 2013, Anderson debuted a silver Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro at the East Coast opener, the third race of 24 on NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour. This year, he will bring out a bright red Jerry Haas-built Chevrolet Camaro with the bold and recognizable Summit Racing branding.

“This car is really fast. I’m happy,” said Anderson, who spent two days getting comfortable in his new office at a test session in Valdosta, Fla. “This isn’t a new and sudden decision; we decided a long time ago to change cars. We acquired a new car at the end of last season, and we’ve been working on it all winter. It’s taken us all that time to get it ready. We’d have raced it at [the season-opener in] Pomona if we would have had it ready, but we had to wait until we had everything just right. So far, all the hard work that we put into this Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro over the winter is paying off, and it looks like it’s a very good racecar. I’m very proud of the guys, they put in a lot of effort and worked day and night to get this red car up to speed. Hopefully we can run even better at the Gatornationals this weekend. I’m really excited about it.

“The last race I won was in a red car [Englishtown 2012], and I haven’t won since I changed colors. That gives me a little extra confidence – maybe red is my lucky color. This is a little different red, a little bit brighter, but we love it and just can’t wait to get out there.”

Anderson is clearly looking forward to the opportunity to return to the historic racetrack where he has twice reset the national record for elapsed time. He scored the Gatornationals victory in 2004 and 2007, and in 2011 and 2012, the Mooresville, N.C., resident campaigned Summit Racing colors in the final round.

“Gainesville is one of the best racetracks on the circuit, one of the biggest races that we get to race, and there is so much history there,” said Anderson. “It’s been very special to me. It’s a race where Pro Stock cars often run fast, and we love that. It can have such good air conditions, and it’s a great, smooth racetrack. We always look forward to this race, and what makes it even more special for me is that my birthday is Saturday night. It’ll be a good weekend all around. I’m going into Gainesville with a big smile on my face.”
