Scelzi Scores Podium Finish During Sprint Car Season Debut at Marysville

Inside Line Promotions – MARYSVILLE, Calif. (March 2, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi scored a podium finish during his season debut with Dan Monhoff last Saturday at Marysville Raceway.

“Any time you get a good run, especially in a car you’re not familiar with, you gain a lot of confidence,” Scelzi said. “Dan gave me a great car and all the guys worked really hard.”

Scelzi opened the night by qualifying fifth quickest.

“We went out late, which ended up being a good thing,” he said. “The track stayed the same throughout qualifying, but for the last few cars it was getting better. It put us in about the perfect spot.”

That lined Scelzi up on the inside of the second row of a heat race.

“We got a good start and going into the first corner the car on the pole made a mistake and I had to check up,” he said. “I lost a spot, but we ended up transferring through the heat.”

Scelzi’s fourth-place finish locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 7 to line up on the inside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We got into fifth and ran down Willie Croft,” he said. “Then I had some late-race contact with Mason Moore, which brought out a yellow. They moved me behind Willie so I had to pass him again. At the end of the race I got to the leaders, but I just couldn’t do anything with them.”

The third-place result provided Scelzi with a lot of momentum entering a trio of races this week. He will compete on Wednesday and Thursday in his family car at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas for the FVP Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

“I really like the race track,” he said. “I feel really confident. A big deal for me would be to make both main events. I feel that’d be a really good start to the season. We’ve got a really good Kistler engine in it now and we’ve got a car that’s built as well as any of them out there so I feel confident.”

Scelzi’s week wraps up on Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., where he will drive for Monhoff at the Silver Cup.
